There is not anything to pinpoint as a disappointing factor.

In-Depth Analysis

Tapestry is a slice-of-life romance film based on Miyuki Nakajima’s famous song Ito. It follows Ren and Aoi’s lives over 18 years. Director Takahisa Zeze and screenwriter Tamio Hayashi demonstrate that they fully understand that the true emotional power of a romance narrative is dependent on the performances, not on any compositional decorations or cheap narrative tricks to evoke emotions. This film has thoughtfully used slow motion. By emphasizing these events in slow motion, the emotional dimension of their struggle is punctuated for the viewer, making it easier for the viewer to invest in the narrative. This film not only focuses on romance but also raises topics like domestic violence, betrayal, etc., which we can relate to the real world. The film’s narrative stands out due to its slice-of-life realism, many genuinely touching moments, and a very moving finale. Tapestry is also a film about putting the past behind you and moving forward despite how confusing and painful a mess life is, without getting angry or giving up. Life is not a movie, but that does not mean happiness is not within your grasp. And that is a stunning message to spread.

Star Power

Suda Masaki (Ren Takahashi) and Komatsu Nana (Aoi Sonoda) were able to bring out the real emotions of romance with their fantastic acting. Their skills were the driving force of this film.

Overall Opinion
