Movie Digest

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department receives an anonymous letter that states that a murder of a murder suspect will appear at the Masquerade Night countdown party at Hotel Cortesia Tokyo. Detective Kosuke Nitta is needed to enter the Hotel undercover to catch the culprit. He meets Naomi Yamagishi, a concierge there for whom things are made difficult because of this cat and mouse game between the police and the criminal. Detective Kosuke Nitta looks desperately among the 500 attendees to discover the culprit despite having no actual knowledge of the criminal other than the fact that they will be there.

The Feel-Good Part

Though this part has everything you can ask for, it focuses more on suspense. It builds from the start and is kept throughout the movie. It has many other elements also with a little bit of comedy.

The movie is easy on the eyes, and you want to keep watching it. The colors and lighting are a plus factor in the whole movie; they never disappoint. And as the central theme of the movie is a Masquerade Night, the entire thing is more mysterious and intriguing to watch.

The Disappointing Factor

The movie doesn’t have such a disappointing factor, but it’s just that the first part was a little bit more fun. This one is a lot like the first movie and doesn’t have a lot of new stuff, but it is still something fresh except for the fact that we already know what the basic storyline is going to be.

In-Depth Analysis

Masquerade Night is a sequel to the first movie, Masquerade hotel. These movies are adapted from the book series of the same name, written by Keigo Higashino. The storyline of this part is also similar to the first one, where the police need to stop a criminal from committing a crime within the hotel. But even though the screenplay is the same, both of the movies have their individual standing. Where the first one had some subplots; this one focuses more on the main story. As both the movies have their own story, you can watch the second part without watching the first. It doesn’t make any difference.

As for the characters, they are almost the same from the first one and kept on that character development. As we already know them from the first movie it is easier to understand their characters and brings more depth to every individual person. Naomi Yamagishi’s character is refreshing and the chemistry between her and Kosuke Nitta is amazing and brings something new to the story.

The whole movie takes place for the duration of twenty-four hours. The masquerade is a one-night party, so from suspecting a person from a crowd of five hundred people to understanding the criminal’s plan and catching them, all of this takes place within twenty-four hours.

Star Power

The star cast is fantastic in the first part. As said above, it’s as if Nagasawa Masami is more comfortable working with Kimura Takuya, both of them have amazing chemistry and are just natural. Both of them do an impressive job in their roles. The supporting roles were again mind-blowing and help the story flow with ease.

Overall Opinion

The movie is fantastic. Intriguing to watch with all the beautiful setup and cinematography. Compelling characters and their fantastic acting. An extraordinary storyline that keeps you hooked. It is worth giving a try if you are looking for a movie in this genre and even if you are not looking for a movie in this genre, you can give it a try anyway.
