Drama Digest

The movie follows the 2017 drama series, Cautious, Hazardous Wife, in which we see a newly married Kumi move to the coastal town Tamami with her husband Yuji, with whom she fell in love on a blind date. Being brought up by a relative, Kumi has never properly known family or love, so she is very excited to have a new start in life.

Unbeknownst to Kumi, she was a special agent called Nami. On one of her missions, she suffered a serious injury, which caused her to forget a considerable chunk of her life. Yuji is another special agent, Yuki, who worked in the same agency as her and was her lover. He has been tasked with keeping an eye on her while undercover.

Nami may have amnesia, but her old life still seeps through, often in her dreams, or by moving her well-honed instincts to protect the defenseless or fight for justice. When a methane hydrate R&D plant is rumored to be constructed near Tamami, with potentially harmful effects, people rise in protest, but they end up beat up by hooligans or mysteriously dead. Knowing Nami, Yuki is only waiting for her amnesia to pass and her instincts to kick in.

 The Feel Good Part

The movie has a light-hearted atmosphere. Set in the backdrop of Tamami, it takes us through a tour of the gorgeous seaside, while telling an engaging story. The chemistry between the two leads is electric. The fight scenes are wonderfully executed and put the viewers on the edge of their seats.

In-Depth Analysis

There are many layers to the film. Taking the amnesia trope, it tells a story about duty and sacrifice, while knitting real-world problems like money laundering, greedy corporations, and the desecration of nature into the whole picture. It could have easily become another run-of-the-mill action movie, but the story draws the viewer in with its simplicity and depth.

The movie highlights the world of political intrigue and the part international espionage plays in it. Often coming at the cost of civilians, these are nonetheless a big part of our current society.

A big percentage of socio-economic problems are created by influential people by their greed and thirst for power. When confronted, they often harm the less powerful. This is a huge reason a lot of people do not want to bother listening to their conscience.

The film sets a powerful example for young children, especially young girls, through Nami. She isn’t just a tough and deadly field agent. She believes in doing the right thing, which is hinted at by her previous career choice. Even as a civilian, she is brave and tries to do right by everyone. It is no mystery why Yuki loves her. Nami is not a hero, she is just someone who tries to make the right choice.

The love they share is constrained and weighted by their past, but even then, it is pure and bound by their belief in the other self. Even when burdened with the possibility to kill each other, they stand in front of each other and with each other. It goes to show the depth of their respect and trust.

The Disappointing Factor

The layout of the film is episodic and fast-paced. It jumps from plot point to plot point in some places. It would have been better to make a second season of the first one.

Star Power

I believe the actors were chosen very wisely. Ayase Haruka and Nishijima Hitedoshi have natural chemistry and complement each other’s performance. Suzuki Kosuke, Maeda Atsuko, Okada Kenshi, Dan Rei, Sano Shiro, Tsurumi Shingo, and Musaka Naomasa are wonderful and add versatility to the film.

Overall Opinion

I liked the film. I would 100 percent recommend it to a friend.
