Movie Digest

The Vindicator is a movie about spy warfare and blood-leashed fighting during World War II, where a Chinese man fought with 13 professional soldiers from the enemy state and hunted them down one by one.

The Feel-Good Part

Unlike other war movies, this one gets right to the point without a lot of prefaces. The film has some great fight scenes and isn’t afraid to use a lot of red.

All you have to do is be aware of the eye-carcinogenic effects of CGI. That would never pass muster anywhere else on the planet.

The Disappointing Factor

The back-of-a-coaster script is just an excuse for a barebones tale in which a CPC secret agent pursues a 12-strong Japanese squad and its determined leader through the woodlands after they’ve slaughtered a whole village and made off with a severely pregnant spy who has critical information.

In-Depth Analysis

During the Sino-Japanese War, Gaojia’ao village was located somewhere in southern China. Gao Lang (Gu Shangwei), a CPC secret agent, looks for his comrade Ye Wushuang (Tang Yan), who has crucial knowledge of the enemy. She is on the run, despite being heavily pregnant after her husband was assassinated by the Japanese.

She is on the run, despite being heavily pregnant after her husband was assassinated by the Japanese. Gao Lang traces her back to his hometown of Gaojiao’ao, where he was known as Dahuwa for his martial-arts prowess as a child. Following a hunt with the peasants, the entire community gathers for a feast, which Ye Wushuang attends.

The next day, a 12-man Japanese squad arrives and arrests Ye Wushuang, after which the locals are massacred.

Star Power

Gu Shangwei isn’t an actor, but he doesn’t need to be as he picks off Japanese soldiers and then executes as the squad’s single-minded leader terrifically. Tang Yan also did an excellent job of defending a heavily pregnant comrade with exceptional fighting skills. The rest of the cast did a fine job as well.

Overall Opinion

The Vindicator is a pretty good film on warfare with great CGI effects and is for sure worth a shot for audiences in a typical war film.
