Drama Digest

This is a Chinese drama featuring a woman who’s an expert at Kung Fu and has exceptional skills. After she is adopted by a grand master, her life changes as she uses her skills to fight evil and also fall in love.

The Feel-Good Part

It’s a strong female protagonist-focused film which is rare in Chinese cinema. Some of the fight scenes have been done really well. Also, it’s a small movie so it can be watched anytime.

The Disappointing Factor

The creators of the show have tried to cram a lot of scenes and storylines into a small show. Also, some scenes have been absurdly cut which don’t make sense. The graphics used in the movie are immature and sloppy in a lot of places which makes one wonder if the movie had budget issues that create a negative impact upon the audience.

In-Depth Analysis

The story has been set in the Republic of China. It has a supernatural tone to it. A Xi, the female protagonist has always been exceptional at Kung Fu. She’s loved and practiced Kung Fu all her life. Despite being a girl in a narrow-minded society, she was one of the best anyone’s ever seen. But her life has not been simple. She’s lived alone for most of her life which has resulted in her getting oppressed by the people of higher classes. Just like that, she gets sold to work at a dance hall. There her job is to dance erotically to seduce the merchants of the higher class. She hates this job but is left with no choice. After some days, she gets adopted by the dance grandmaster there as he finds her impressive and talented. After she’s adopted, she’s able to pursue Kung Fu training full-time.

The grandmaster provides her with the best facilities and training. Taking advantage of her abilities, she helps the needy to get rid of the evil. She also becomes a feared bodyguard for her grandmaster and fights every evil being there is. But this does not continue the same way forever as she starts falling in love with a man named Huo Yun Sheng. The entire film revolves around A Xi’s discovery of her powers and also the discovery of her love. This story continues in the sequel of the movie ‘The Queen of Kung Fu 2.’

Star Power

The actress who portrays A Xi has worked hard for this role. She’s fit and agile in all her fight scenes and is charismatic. Her acting is decent as well.

Overall Opinion

The series is unnecessarily historic and the story is uneven and patchy. But the movie as a whole did not turn out to be a decent one.
