Weiyang is a carefree and rebellious girl. Lin Xiao Qiao is an ideal girl for every boy. Though the girls are exactly the opposite, they meet and become close. They become best friends. Once, Xiao Qiao introduces Chao Yan to Weiyang as her boyfriend of ten years, whom she wants to marry. Chao Yan is supposed to be wedded to Xiao Qiao, but fate has different plans. Chao Yan and Weiyang fall in love, forming a love triangle. To resolve the situation, Weiyang makes a surprising decision.
The Feel-Good Part
Looking at the poster, one may think that the movie is about a simple love story with comedy. The love triangle looks simple too, but the story is depressing. It has a dark concept. The movie also shows how getting abused in childhood can affect the remaining of life. On the other hand, the pacing of the movie is perfect. The cinematography and music go hand-in-hand to suit the theme. Even the acting captures the viewers’ eyes. The characters of the two female leads are interesting as they are contrasting.
The Disappointing Factor
There is no point in the story being so dark. Xiao Qiao’s state in the latter half of the movie makes no sense. There is no reason for her to be like that. There is no relevance of it to the actual point intended to show. The portrayal of depression in the movie is not proper as that’s not how it works. The movie fails to touch the viewers’ hearts through the love triangle. It is not effective enough to make sense. The friendship between the two opposite girls is somewhat unbelievable. Such kind of friendship often leads to conflicts. The movie fails to show this. Moreover, the ending is not satisfying, and the movie could have ended differently.
In-Depth Analysis
The movie begins with the introduction of Weiyang and Lin Xiao Qiao. They immediately become close right after they meet. Weiyang was abused in her childhood by her mother. Being abused by her mother and having a tragic past, Weiyang does not believe in love. The movie portrays how abuse can affect a child later in life. A tragic past can destroy a person’s belief in love and shatter their dreams of finding their soul mate. The love triangle begins with the introduction of Chao Yan, Xiao Qiao’s boyfriend of ten years and her fiancé. The movie also throws light on the mental state of someone rejected by their partner. Weiyang’s decision shows her bravery and the value of her friendship with Xiao Qiao.
Star Power
Elane Zhong and Tan Song Yun have played the best friends’ parts – Weiyang and Lin Xiao Qiao, respectively. Kuo Jin has efficiently played Chao Yan’s character, the man of their dreams. All the three have portrayed the love triangle between Xiao Qiao, Weiyang, and Chao Yan.
