Drama Digest

“Song Sanaeha” is a romantic drama series directed by Chana Kraprayoon. It aired in Thailand from the 5th of May 2021 to the 7th of July 2021. The series is a romantic drama series about the story of twin sisters who fall in love with the same man. The story revolves around twin sisters, Duen and Pit, and their romantic interest, Warit. The twin sisters are like the sun and moon, poles apart in their personalities. Duen is a capricious actress and model, while Pit is an unrealistically lovely person who has taken care of Duen since the death of their parents. Duen is known to be part of a scandalous relationship. During her scandalous relationship with a rock musician, Pit falls in love with Warit. Soon they get to know that Warit is the nephew of Duen’s latest partner. Duen gets bored of the uncle and decides to pursue the nephew while competing with her sister. At first, Warit is confused between them, but he gradually starts to understand who is who. Warit begins to resist Duen, but her tactics become harsher, causing a quarrel between Pit and Warit. Will this chaos get worse? Will either of the sisters yield their true love for each other?

The Feel-Good Part

The exciting part of the series is how packed it is. The story is full of content. There are so many things happening at the same time that you will never feel like the series is getting stretched for no reason.

The Disappointing Factor

The biggest flaw in the series is in the storyline. The plot is strong, but the way the story has been developed may seem frustrating and dumb at times. This happens especially during the death of characters. The deaths feel unnecessary in a lot of places.

In-Depth Analysis

The series is a remake of the 2005 Thai series of the same name. The filmmaker has kept the overall plot and feel of the series the same as the older series. But the series went out of hand in the development of the story.  Twin stories usually tend to get complicated when not executed well, and this is pretty much what happened in the drama. It was a good try at giving so much depth to the characters, but to some extent, it became excessive. Further adding onto the chaos is the use of too many characters. The use of too many characters without giving them much depth gets annoying to the audience. The overall plot of the series is strong and would have done better as a shorter drama than such a long drama.

Star Power

The casting is the true hero of this drama. The only actual reason for the series to make sense is due to the actors. Kimberley Woltemas has aced her role as the twins and this is what has been the backbone of the series. The acting is what has covered up for the messed-up plotlines of the series. The series also shows other actors, who usually play innocent roles, in a very dark light. The acting definitely leaves an impact on the whole viewing experience.

Overall Opinion

Overall, the series is a one-time watch. If you are someone who watches series only for the sake of the plot, then this might be a little disappointing. But If you are here to watch the chemistry of Kimberley and James, then do give this a shot. Their romance is the cherry on the top.
