Drama Digest

This Thai drama tells the story of its female protagonist, Phing, who transforms into a completely different person after a certain incident takes place in her life to avenge those who did wrong to her. The story is about how time and circumstances force a person to change.

The feel-good part

The female lead, Phing, is portrayed amazingly by Mary Broenner. Phing’s character development is the focal point of the series. The male lead’s personality is sweet too. After all the shit Phing goes through, the end of the drama is immensely satisfying. The drama has a periodic tone to it which is appealing to watch.

The disappointing factor

Along with revival, the show also portrays the disappointing themes of harassment, betrayal, murder, etc, which are disturbing to watch. A couple of characters are hugely unlikeable, but that’s the part and parcel of almost every show.

In-depth analysis

Phing, the female lead of the drama, is a chubby and slightly overweight girl. She is teased by others for her appearance, but she is kind, caring, selfless, and helpful. Her parents passed away when she was very young. She has been raised by her grandfather since then. Her grandfather is a good person like her and has always encouraged her to do good for others. Foei, a cruel man who was Phing’s grandfather’s student, has eyes on Phing. He has always wanted Phing’s fortune and decides to seduce and marry her. Phing, being an innocent woman, falls for Foei’s evil tricks and starts to like him. Foei, along with another female character in the drama, Nisa, plots to marry and kill Phing to receive all the property that belongs to her. On the other hand, the male protagonist of the story, Cho, is a kind-hearted man and a noodle-shop owner. After Foei actually kills Phing, Cho is heartbroken. Because he had always liked Phing but could never tell her his feelings. After moving on, he decides that whenever he gets the next chance in life, he will bravely confess his feelings no matter what. At this point, for some days, everyone keeps thinking Phing is dead, but to everyone’s surprise, Phing is revived. The reason behind her revival is revenge on Foei and Nisa. But this time, Phing doesn’t return as her kind-hearted self; she returns as a different personality, ‘May.’ May isn’t kind-hearted and caring; in fact, she is ruthless and vengeful herself. May aims to punish those who have hurt her and her grandfather. Given that Phing has revived as May, Cho sees it as a second chance at love. He doesn’t hold back this time and confesses his love for her. This is the story of Phing/May avenging whoever has hurt her.

Star power

One of the plus points of the drama was the old man’s portrayal of Phing’s grandfather. He portrays a really kind, helpful, and knowledgeable mature person who raises Phing to be a good person.

Overall opinion

The series is a satisfying watch in terms of an innocent protagonist turning against her enemies and taking revenge on them. It is a Thai Lakhorn, so it’s watchable for everyone.
