Drama Digest
KinnPorsche is a revolutionary Thai boys’ love series that caused a storm around entire Thailand. With the portrayal of elements like violence, mafia, nudity, gay-sex, complicated past, etc, it made up for something Thailand had never done. It depicts the life of Kinn Theerapanyakul, a mafia boss who runs many businesses. His family consists of him along with his father and two brothers. Kinn’s life is always in danger being a mafia and he wants to hire a bodyguard who is capable of protecting him at any cost. He has many bodyguards at his feet 24/7 but he is still searching for someone skillful and loyal enough. Porsche is a poor college student living with his little brother at their family home. He is an orphan and finds it hard to make ends meet for him and his brother. After accidentally meeting at a bar and getting into a fight, Porsche ends up saving Kinn. Because of this, Kinn wants Porsche to be his new bodyguard but Porsche does not agree to this at first. This is their story as a bodyguard and boss to lovers.
The Feel-Good Part
KinnPorsche was the first mafia BL for Thailand. The explicitness of the show was never seen before in any Thai BL, so it proved revolutionary. The portrayal of all couples as gay couples and a transgender woman, without a single heterosexual couple, was a great move from the show. It was one of the best production value shows to come out of Thailand
The Disappointing Factor
The storyline quality of the show deteriorated after the first couple of episodes. The portrayal of unnecessary couples could have been avoided.
In-Depth Analysis
This show depicts all the couples as gay couples. Kinn Anakinn Theerapanyakul is the head boss of his mob. His father, Korn Theerapanyakul had transferred his legacy to him among his three sons. His eldest son, Tankhun, is a childish but wise person as he had been through a childhood trauma. His youngest son, Kim, is least interested in their family and lives alone away from the family. Kinn is said to be the most normal of the family and hence is the main boss. He has many skilled bodyguards working for him all day, all night. Kinn is openly gay and has physical relationships with many men. His best friends, Time and Tay, are a couple too. After Kinn is unexpectedly attacked at a bar, a guy named Porsche who works at the bar rescues him. Kins principal bodyguard is hit by a bullet and hence is unable to work for him for a couple of months. To fill up for that position, Kinn is in the search of a new bodyguard. After seeing Porsche’s skills, Kevin decides to recruit him as his bodyguard. Pause, who is a poor college student is the sole bread earner for his family. He has no one but his younger brother Porchay, as his family. After finding out where Porsche lives, Kinn offers him the job forcefully. After refusing at first, Porsche accepts the offer later as it would make him more money than he has ever earned. After Porsche starts working for Kinn, Kinn starts falling for Porsche right away. Porsche is initially stubborn and hesitant but later falls for Kinn too. On their journey together, they have to face a lot of hardships and pressure from the outside world of the mafia. The special behind-the-scenes episode features all the blooper scenes and the cast interviews about how they actually shot the show.
Star Power
Porsche was a hilarious, careless, and dynamic personality. That’s the reason he was more loved than Kinn. But Kinn’s elder brother, Tankhun, posed as the highlight of the show due to his witty, immature, fun, and wise personality.
Overall Opinion
Though the production quality and the casting of the show were top-notch, its story disappointed a lot of audiences. Otherwise, it is an impressive show, especially along the lines of the portrayal of intimacy between the characters.
