Drama Digest

During Joseon Dynasty, Ryu Ho Seon wed his beloved and beautiful bride, Hwa Jin. After the ceremony comes their wedding night, but Ho Seon is suspicious of his new wife due to her uneasy behaviour. He is stunned to find that his wife is a man and none other than the brother of his betrothed bride, Choi Ki Wan. After an explanation, his sister, who loathed the idea of a political marriage, fled her marriage which was the reason for this switched situation. They try to annul their marriage but fail because his mother is against this idea. They decide to keep the truth a secret without getting caught by anyone. Kim Tae Hyeong, a close friend, comes to congratulate Ho Seon on his recent wedding but falls in love with Ki Wan. A complicated situation arises as they try to evade Tae Hyeong from advancing toward Ki Wan. To further the complications, Hwa Jin returns to Ho Seon with guilt feelings. The only solutions to these problems are to let everyone return to their rightful place, but it might not be that easy.

The Feel-Good Part

The show talks more about the social positions and family honours that need to be maintained by the children. It showcases an arranged marriage that turns out to be chaotic when the groom finds that his wife is a man because the real bride ran away on her wedding day. It got filled with dramatic and comedic plots that are well balanced. The acting performances of the entire cast were on point. The pretty backgrounds and settings with high production value provided a visual pleasure for the audience. The show is a Boy’s love (BL) with historical aspects that were a new and fresh concept. The first of the series is quite uplifting and enjoyable to watch.

The Disappointing Factor

The pacing of this show is quite unbalanced and all over the place. The episodes felt a bit chopped up as scenes felt missing at times. The romantic aspects felt unrealistically forced to the viewers as the timings seemed off. The series does not have a well-thought-through plot and accurate historical portrayals. The show does not take itself too seriously with the well-put plot progressions.
