Drama Digest

A story set in a shabby, modest clinic where we have our main character Boo Yong Joo who fancies himself as Dr. romantic and is known as teacher Kim around the clinic. Dr, romantic 2 is set after three years in time from the first season release of the series. In season 1, Boo Yong Joo was a triple-certified board doctor who used to work at the Geosan Medical hospital as a top surgeon in Seoul. Following a very tragic incident, Yong Joo decides to leave and start over in a new place. He changes his name to Kim Sabu and now is working at the run-down shabby clinic at Doldam in Gangwon province. He ventures back into the Geosan Medical University to recruit a surgeon for his clinic down at Doldam. He encounters a young surgeon Seo Woo Jin, who has a troubled past and is ostracised by his peers at work. moved by Jin’s circumstance he offers him the job, meanwhile, we also have Cha Eun Jae who faints at the sight of blood despite being a surgeon. After making a mistake at one of the surgeries, she has no choice but to join these two down to Doldam as a doctor there.

The Feel-Good Part

The characters were very realistically portrayed. In the case of Seo Woo Jin, it was debt and problematic family history. Some aspects of his personal life were used as a weapon to exclude him or keep up an invisible guard around him. At the same time, we have Eun Jae who is scared of performing surgery due to her problem with seeing blood. These are problems that can happen or have happened to people. When watching a work of fiction, viewers see something that reflects a part of their own life. The drama or art can connect more to the individual. Dr. Romantic 2 did well on this front by fleshing out the characters well.

The Disappointing Factor

The villains seemed very out of place in the story, same as the previous season but had no strong motives behind their actions. The drama just for the sake of drama makes the viewing process bit tedious. A lot of situations that seemed serious and when the solution was presented suddenly felt very silly to be worried about. The drama was clearly only used as a way to engross the audience with no elemental value to the plot. But all things aside it tied up each issue neatly with a solution.

In-Depth Analysis

Master Kim was really the heart of this show, there are some new faces and some old ones. Cha Eun Jae and her family problems were portrayed realistically. How she develops further as a doctor under the Doldam Clinic is beautiful to watch. Master Kim is an exemplary character to grace the screen in this drama. He really points out the societal problems and how doctors should be all about saving patients and their lives. His brutal honesty allows people around him to be inspired and perform their duties with more self-reflection and less self-importance. The subplots in the drama, some based on real-life incidents are written very realistically. These incidents could happen to anyone at any time, it may have already happened as well. The drama does good in shedding more light on the plight of others.

Star Power

Lee Sung Kyung played Eun Jae this season and Ahn Yeo Seop played the role of Seo Woo Jin. He has previously worked in the drama Business proposal. While the former has worked in the record of youth, Weight lifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. Han Seok Kyu has played the role of Dr. Kim in this season as well as the last.  He has worked in a number of movies and dramas and is a well-established actor in the Korean film industry.

Overall Opinion

Dr. romantic is a good watch and stable drama. The subplots and characters are very well integrated into the story. The plot twists and cliffhangers are nothing short of a genius mind. In realistic medical drama, we see first-hand how things work and sometimes are compelled to face the harsh reality of life. If you are fond of K dramas this is something that should be on your watch list.
