Drama Digest

Jang Wook is a descendant of a noble family in Daeho. He carries the heavy load of a birth secret the whole country talks about. He has a reputation for being a troublemaker. One day he meets Mu Deok, who is an elite warrior whose soul is trapped in a physically weak body. She soon becomes Jang Wook’s servant and secretly teaches her how to fight. Seo Yool comes from a noble family and is intelligent with a good appearance and strong martial arts skills, Go Won is the crown prince of Daeho, who hopes to become a generous king one day. Their fates get intertwined due to hwanhonsool, which is when the soul of the dead returns to the living.

The Feel-Good Part

The show’s plot is interesting as it blends fantasy and realistic elements well. The world-building is incredibly done. It provides the audience with an immersive viewing experience that is guaranteed to keep the audience engaged. The visual effect and graphics are done well as it adds to the mystic setting of the show. It is not used excessively, which gives something for the audience to look forward to in the forthcoming episodes. The show balances romance, action, and comedy in just the right places. Some episodes lean more on the comedic side, which gives the audience some time to understand the characters while still building anticipation for what’s to come next. The emotions of joy and fear are expressed very well thus far as the show dabbles in different genres to give the audience a show that deals with a spectrum of emotions rather than focusing on one or two specific feelings. All the characters seem to be well written so far and have exciting storylines. The chemistry and dynamic between the characters are also quite fascinating as it makes the audience anticipate their future and how these relationships will change throughout the show. The costume design is an important aspect of the show that is executed well as it has traditional Korean clothing merged with contemporary colors and patterns.

The Disappointing Factor

The episodes are too long and have a lot of filler scenes that some people may see as unimportant. There haven’t been that many episodes released yet, but there is a lot of potential for the show to become melodramatic quite quickly.

In-Depth Analysis

The drama is a complete package of action and romance with sprinkles of humor that makes it the perfect show to follow over a couple of weeks. The emotional scenes land very well because the characters are easy to root for. The show could go in many different directions at this point, which is quite compelling as there is a lot more that is left to explore in the fantasy world as well as the characters.

Star Power

All the performances were excellent. The cast delivers the characters with nuance, which makes the audience connect with the characters well. The female protagonists are the show’s highlight as the actresses have done a great job of breathing new life into an already exciting character, making them as unique as the show allows them to be.

Overall Opinion

Soul Marriage is a show that is definitely worth watching. All the episodes released so far have left the audience wanting more.
