Drama Digest

The story starts when the main character Nanba Tsuyoshi, an infamous teenager from a household of delinquents, decides to go against his even more infamous family’s wishes and is expected to succeed his very own older brother as the most potent delinquent in school. He decides to enroll in the top high school in town to live as an ordinary high schooler, a decision which ultimately leads him to secrets, lies and problematic situations. Living a double life as the strongest delinquent in town and as a typical high schooler means double trouble. Nanba MG5 is a story about Tsuyoshi trying to balance between his family’s expectations and his desires, crazy insane situations, loony people and obviously– fighting.

The Feel-Good Part

The story has a quirky air and perfect comic timing, but there is a fair amount of drama and there are moments that are capable of tugging one’s heartstrings. Silly, light-hearted and benevolent, the story also becomes involved in some serious matters and I think it handles them better with each passing arc. Many things are played for laughs, but the lines are drawn when needed and even the goofiest characters have their dignity and nobility. The central theme is Tsuyoshi’s relationship with his family, who he feels cannot accept him for who he is and what he wants from life.

The Disappointing Factor

The expectations of the family of Tsuyoshi, the judgments of those around him, his current self and ideal self and his strength and weakness make a significant impact on his identity.

In-Depth Analysis

Nanba MG5 is genuinely a series I would call obscure. Straightforward fighting shown along with silly comedy, drama and roughness. His character is the type of guy who cannot stand back and watch when someone innocent is about to get hurt or is being mistreated. Even if he is super strong, his fights are never dull and fighting does solve a lot of things for him.  Being a Yanki Manga there is bound to be a good amount of- bromance. The only reason for loving Yanki Manga. There are fantastic main characters who like to go shirtless and brothers who have your back. Is there anything more that one could ask for?

Star Power

Tsuyoshi is a fantastic character and the main lead of the story and this role is played by Mamiya Shotaro. Along the way, Tsuyoshi becomes acquainted with some more exciting characters involving the girl of his dreams, played by Morikawa Aoi, a delinquent-wannabe and a bunch of super-strong fighters going for his head.

Overall Opinion

Nanba MG5 is a quirky manga with a fantastic style. This series is recommended for people who are interested in delinquent stories, peculiar art, characters with secret heroes of justice identities and series which need more love.
