Drama Digest

Three masters carefully assessed their successors-to-be just before the Druidon arrived to attack Earth.

The Feel-Good Part

With only 15 minutes per episode, there isn’t enough time to accomplish it perfectly, but it does a fantastic job of humanizing the characters in a manner that the show hadn’t done previously.

What’s most intriguing about The Legacy of the Master’s Soul is how it attempts to highlight the three Masters’ shortcomings while maintaining their status as authority figures we knew from Ryusoulger. Although they were never depicted as flawless in the series, much of the drama in this episode stems from their failures or their lack to recognize something.

The Disappointing Factor

While a little more time spent directly with the “actual” Ryusoulgers would have been good, a piece like this is an extremely helpful in fleshing out the show’s tribal heritage.

In-Depth Analysis

Three masters carefully assessed their successors-to-be just before the Druidon returned to invade Earth. Isuka, who was secure in her abilities, could not tolerate Master Pink’s preference for Asuna. Master Blue sensed her impatience as well. A Minosaur appeared at this precise moment. This Minosaur utilized similar strategies to those Isuka had just mastered. Could she have given birth to it? What is the mystery behind Hana, the mysterious girl that appeared in front of Master Red?!

Star Power

Isuka portrays the more arrogant student, who is secure in her own abilities but lacks that crucial emotional quality. Mayu, a former blue candidate who is now a Ryusoul researcher, is an instantly appealing character who would have been a fantastic complement to the squad in the main tale. Finally, there’s Nire, who turns out to be a crucial person in both this story’s events and the events that put the main series in action. They’re all great personalities in their own right, and in some ways, they’re even more interesting than the Masters.

Overall Opinion

Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger: The Legacy of the Master’s Soul isn’t lengthy enough to fully develop these secondary characters, its attempt to humanize them by exposing their fallibility makes it an intriguing little side story.
