Kei × Yaku: Abunai Aibou is a Japanese drama, primarily based on a manga of the same name. It is a bromance-themed drama concerning a missing person investigation. The story is about a cop, Ichiro, and a mafia boss, Shiro. Ichiro was looking into the disappearance case of his senior investigator. The investigator, Nakaba Rion, went missing three years ago. Ichiro discovers that Shiro was also on the lookout for the same individual. As a result, they collaborate as a couple to solve the mystery.
It is fascinating to see how men with different personalities and professions join together to solve the mystery. Action, suspense, mystery, and terrific chemistry between the male leads are all present in this drama.
The Feel-Good Part
The story is compelling with excellent direction and production values. The main characters developing relationships are fascinating, especially how they worry about and care for one another is the true strength of drama. Music is another component that contributes to the enjoyment of this show. The arrangement of instruments is extraordinary.
The Disappointing Factor
The drama started strong, but the suspense of the story faded in the last several episodes. The narrative was occasionally confusing and the show has an excessive number of flashbacks. Every once in a while, the loopholes of the plot cause you to lose interest. The climax was not particularly satisfying because it left many unresolved questions.
In-Depth Analysis
Ichiro Kinoshita is a hard-working cop dedicated to his job. While working on the disappearance case of his senior investigator, he received a task to perform an investigation on Shiro Hanabusa, who became a Yakuza gang leader after entering the organization three years ago. Shiro was younger brother of the missing person. When they were both children, they were both victims of a bombing, which started a chain of events that finally brought them together. They decided to cooperate in uncovering the truth. They agreed to behave as a couple to hide that they were working together. They eventually build a bond, and their friendship grows into something more meaningful.
The drama ended on a cliffhanger, implying either an open ending or the possibility of a second season.
Star Power
The role of Ichiro was played by Nobuyuki Suzuki. He was great as a serious cop with a soft side. Atsuhiro Inukai was amazing at conveying his emotions as Shiro. The other castes did an excellent job as well.
Overall Opinion
It had a lot of potential as an action thriller genre. The overall storyline is enjoyable, but it could have been better if performed in a more orderly manner. You can give it a try if you do not mind the romantic angle between the male leads.
