Drama Digest

After a successful TV special in 2019, the story continues as a serialized drama. Kimura Fumino plays the role of Kana, who starts a new job in Tokyo and goes on a business trip to Osaka. Things get intriguing when she takes a secretive trip to Kyoto. Kyoto holds a special place in Kana’s heart because she used to explore its streets on her uncle’s bicycle, which brings back nostalgic memories. However, Kana’s visit to Kyoto is also driven by a sense of loneliness she experienced at a Tokyo party. Seeking guidance, she turns to her uncle for advice, leaving us curious about how she’ll react to his words.

The Feel-Good Part

The city’s landscapes are portrayed beautifully in this drama. The breathtaking scenery truly captivated me. What made it even more special was the use of genuine locals from Kyoto instead of professional actors to engage with Fumino’s character.

The Disappointing Factor

The show is excellent, besides a few minor flaws.

In-Depth Analysis

This series is like a continuation of the 2019 show with the same name. It all begins with Kana Eto, a 27-year-old woman living in Tokyo who had never really left the city. She used to work as a designer and lived in a dorm provided by her company. However, the stress from her social life led her to move back to her family’s home. One day, her family learned that their elderly great-uncle, Shigeru Oga, had gotten injured. Concerned about his well-being, her mother asked Kana to go to Kyoto, where he lived, and take care of him. In Kyoto, Kana met her 70-year-old great-uncle Shigeru, who had been living there for a long time and had unique quirks. He gave her hand-drawn maps and sent her on daily errands, taking her to exciting and sometimes amusing places around the city on a bicycle. These places were both new and filled with nostalgia for Kana, and they showed her a hidden side of Kyoto that she had never experienced before. Living in the busy city of Tokyo, Kana would have never discovered these hidden gems. As Kana explored these unique places and interacted with the people she met along the way, she gradually began to understand her great-uncle’s true intentions. She found herself relaxing and genuinely enjoying the experience.

Star Power

The cast was very delightful to watch.  Kimura Fumino as Eto Kana played the lead role, Kondo Masaomi played the role of Oga Shigeru, Furutachi Kanji played the role of Koyama Isshi, Tamaoki Reo played the role of Yoshida Munetada, Tokunaga Eri played the role of Mishima Yui, and Sakuragi Kenichi played the role of Fujisawa.

Overall Opinion

It is an excellent series overall.
