Drama digest

A French restaurant chef, Mifune Shinobu learned French cooking at restaurants in the countryside of French for more than ten years. Shinobu is calm and doesn’t talk much, but has a warm heart and is considerate of other people. He is only worried about achieving success as a chef, but he also cares about healing people with tasty food. He remembers small details and has an excellent memory. He is also a private detective and solves customers’ problems and worries.

The feel-good part

The technical proficiency of the drama has shined through the high production values and top-quality execution. This is true for aspects concerning production. The realism of the content depiction about the kitchen, food preparation, cooking, and restraint management. The music of this production induced atmospheric storytelling with an infusion of the tasteful classical element.

The disappointing factor

Nothing disappointed me in particular, but the pacing was a minor issue with the drama. Otherwise, everything was delicious, like its food. The story was straightforward, without any twists.

In-depth analysis

Every story left utterly satisfying. The emotional bonds between  friends, family and general humanity were fulfilling. As the story progressed, it built things to a high point. The drama was not built up with dramatic moments. It slowly and calmly make a strong and firm base. Each customer had their  mystery and it was nice to see. The show fitted itself in the slice-of-life, coming-age, mystery, and familial genres. Each mystery of the customers was beautiful, and it helped build relationships with co-workers. There were no dramatic twists within the story. Until the final moments, each mystery was preserved. The cast fits well together. The storyline flowed impeccably well. The drama was successful into highlighting his and downs of humanity. The drama was appealing in some ways the other. Food can change people’s emotions. The storyline and the pacing was the selling point of the drama. Themes of friendship, loyalty, courage, and redemption were explored in the show.

Star power

Nishijima Hidetoshi was suitable for the role. Every character managed to shine and get their moment. The cast was the cohesive part of the overall drama. The personalities of the characters shined in the drama.

Overall opinion

It is a highly recommended drama. Its comprehensive narrative continuously grabs the viewer’s attention. It is a must-watch drama for people interested in cooking and food. The drama is adapted from three novels, Taruto Tatam no Yume, Van Sho wo Anata no, and Makaron ha Makaron by Kondo Fumie.
