Drama Digest
Adapted from Li Gong Zuo’s short story “The Governor of Nanke,” the story follows the life of 19-year-old Li Fu Zhu, who enjoys reading comic books. Her mother’s constant nagging about her poor exam results, make her wish she could travel somewhere else. The Gods of Fate listened to this wish of hers and she finds herself transported into the world of her favorite comic book. She meets the young emperor Yun Yi there, who is the protagonist of the comic book, and their hilarious yet fantastic love story began.
The Feel-Good Part
This story has your average transmigration plot, where the girl suddenly becomes a crucial figure in saving an alternate world. Yet, like all good transmigration stories, it still catches the viewer’s attention and lets you experience different feelings. The story is light-hearted and the types of situations the female lead ends up in, make you laugh endlessly. The romance is sweet and cute coaxing multiple “Aww(s)” from you! In terms of the visuals, the good-looking cast and the beautiful backgrounds win the aesthetic factor.
The Disappointing Factor
Most transmigration stories portray the alternate universes as a version of the earth but in the past, with other quirks exclusively unique to that particular world. This story was no different and they ended up making this universe seem less favorable than the female lead’s world (earth). This disturbs the fantasy element of the story and leaves the viewers disappointed.
In-Depth Analysis
This series is a really good binge-watch if you are looking for something not too serious. The characters are funny and laughable giving you a decent laugh, the romance is engaging and the chemistry between the leads is endearing. The flow of the story is not too forced, combined with the duration of each episode makes it a comfortable watch. The pacing is good which prevents the drama from becoming too boring.
Star Power
With stars like Zhang Yue Nan and Cao Jun Xiang leading the show directed by Zeng Huang Bin and Jiang Tian Hang, the story develops beautifully. Cao Jun Xiang is a veteran actor compared to the female lead Zhang Yue Nan. Yet, after seeing their performance no one would be able to tell the difference!
Overall Opinion
Some aspects of the story may not precisely meet your expectations. But, if you want a good series to binge on, this is a good choice. The show makes sure it delivers beautiful visuals, good comedy, and a heart-warming romance.
