Drama Digest

The story revolves around Zhao Xiao Qian, who is a prince of Julu. It is a small administrative area in Wu Jiang. This drama is set during the Song Dynasty where the emperors often did not have their own heirs and had to adopt their nephews to be their successors. Zhao Xiao Qian and his older brother were the adopted sons of the emperor. They were brought to be groomed in the palace for the throne. Astonishingly, the empress conceived and had a son. The elder brother died soon after that and Zhao was sent to Wu Jiang Fu, which was a city far away from the palace. He is a good and a generous person, but is also demanding, dominating, short-tempered and unreasonable. He liked to live in peace and away from chaos and problems. He dreamt of becoming a military general and defend his country in wars. The female lead is Xie Jiang Er, who is a daughter of an influential family. Because of an unexpected setup, the two are forced into accepting a contract marriage with each other. The two are entirely different from each other. They have opposite mindsets and often come into arguments. Zhao does not think much of this marriage proceeds to continue his education in a prestige institute. Reality hits him hard when he finds out Xie has also been enrolled in that academy. He does not approve of this. He thinks that women should be placed at home and has no place at an academy. He constantly asks her to leave. But Xie thinks differently. She is an outspoken woman who thinks that women deserve education as equal as men. With her determined personality, she gives all her time to studies, whereas Zhao learns martial arts. Despite their ongoing conflicts, will they be able to fall in love with each other?

The Feel-Good Part

The story is good and delivers a good message for women.

The Disappointing Factor

Many viewers found the female lead to be very unnatural and cringy. Her character required development and a lot more work. She often pissed off Zhao and caused irrelevant problems and issues. The dialogues also had to be worked on as they were quite plain and boring.

In-Depth Analysis

The show is mainly for the young audience. With a historical setting, the drama depicts the importance of education in lives of both men and women. The series also informs us about gender equality and how both men and women should be able to contribute to the society.

Star Power

The cast included great actors and they did a good job. Joseph Zeng played the role of Zhao Xiao Qian. The audience absolutely loved the way he made his character super negative and positive at the same time. He also had a great character development at the end of the show. Liang Jie played the role of the female lead, Xie Xiao Man. Her character needed a lot of work and was okayish.

Overall Opinion

The show is great and depicts a great message. It also shows the importance of friendship in one’s life.
