Drama Digest

In the Chinese show “The Truth from 2020”, a detective unearths a plot involving drug manufacturing. The drama was based on Bai Nian Ru Ge’s book “An Obscure Truth” (“看不清的真相”).

The ongoing investigation of a murder case for ten years exposes the horror of human nature and dismantles carefully thought-out retribution.

Criminal investigator Feng Lang (Wang Qing) has a sharp mind. He discovers a terrible scheme involving a drug factory from many years ago through a number of situations. They compete in a game of minds and will to unravel the mystery with young female police officer Fan Yun (Li Xin Ran) and other investigators.

The Feel-Good Part

This drama has a little bit of fear, without diving into horror. With more plot and the action-packed tempo. There are also hints of humor and drama without making a commitment to either. After much anxiety, fear, anger, confusion, and a lot of edge-of-seat excitement, we come across shocking twists and then the tension is released in a feeling of exhilaration, leaving us on a moral high ground with justice well served. This drama has the capacity to keep the viewers engaged throughout the series.

The Disappointing Factor

There is the same issue that plagues every other Chinese drama, particularly those that feature government, also affects this one.

The English title of this drama, The Truth, is quite ironic, as there was no truth found as the production team completely glossed over the authorities and blew their own trumpet for no other reason than to present a corrupted truth.

I found it disappointing that, in the name of “truth” and “drama,” they made every effort to make the second male character (the lawyer) a villain.

Worth watching because the rest of the production, dialogue, and flow is good.

In-Depth Analysis

The girl covered in blood was surprised to see the construction site after the popular female station director suddenly passed away on the street. In defiance of the general consensus, the young police detective Feng Lang collaborated with the inexperienced police officer Fan Yun to uncover the truth. A significant conspiracy emerged as the investigation progressed, but the key insiders perished tragically and unexplainably one after another.

People were continually killed at the scene of murder, leading the police investigation to a standstill. The dual turmoil of emotion and duplicity swept Feng Lang up. The truth progressively came to light as the black hand behind the scenes started to show his teeth, leading to additional police sacrifices. As a result, Feng Lang was able to learn about the complete situation and grow up in hardship. Since the significant case was true, the law has harshly punished the real murderer.

Star Power

The series is enhanced by performances starting from the extra to the lead characters. The main cast of the show is Wang Qing, Li Xin Ran, and Liu Yi Tong (dual role). The lead actors do their roles effortlessly. Even the supporting characters do their role with perfection. The supporting actors are Min Zheng, Zhang Da Bao, Yang Shu, Wang Zi Hao, Xia Shao Hang, Ji Yong Qing, and Meng Nan.

Overall Opinion

With suspense and crime, and conspiracies, this drama will keep audiences on their toes with tension and excitement. Therefore, it entertains the audience and engages them throughout the drama which makes them enjoy this drama. This series is worth chasing.
