Drama Digest

The Silent Criminal is about a bunch of thieves who plan to rob a mysterious box that supposedly possessed a powerful weapon. The box proves to be empty when the thieves successfully carry out their mission. Long Yao- a skilled warrior, martial arts expert and high-born royalty whose unwavering belief in justice sets him on a path to find out what happened to the weapon. His journey leads him to Jiang Yao- a lowly town investigator who he suspects at first but later turns into a powerful ally. They later meet Li Huang Wu- a self-taught warrior queen turned outlaw who is on her individual journey to avenge her father’s death and wields magical powers.

The Feel-Good Part

The show starts off on a very strong note; it almost immediately pulls the audience in with the beginning. All the characters serve a purpose and contribute to the movement of the story, which keeps the audience interested as something is constantly happening irrespective of who is getting the main spotlight. Each character has a strong enough character arc that compliments the story as well as shows personal growth and changing dynamics. A lot of the plot points are dependent on characters so the fact that they are well written makes the show a lot more interesting. The chemistry between the characters is captivating, each of they have changing dynamics but they have core elements the relationships that stay constant throughout. The music of the show is great and goes well with the tone of the show.

The Disappointing Factor

The pace of the story is quiet inconsistent. The story starts off really strong but ends on a rushed conclusion that doesn’t make a lot of sense. This might’ve happened because of inconsistent writing, pacing and the lack of planning. The main plot starts going off the rails after the ninth episode, which may lose the attention quite quickly as the sudden drop in quality is quite noticeable. The last four episodes are rushed and by far the weakest aspect of the series, which may be a let-down for viewers who have invested a lot of their time in the show. The potential of the characters wasn’t at its optimal level, which feels like a lot of missed opportunities.

In-Depth Analysis

This is yet another drama that suffers from missed opportunities. The show had a lot of things going for it but because of certain shortcomings like the writing towards the end and the clichéd mystery prevents it from being as enjoyable as it could have been. The drama, despite its downfalls proves to be quite entertaining because of its humour and character interaction, it’s a story that isn’t new but is executed well enough to keep the audience entertained for the most part.

Star Power

Most of the performances were great; however some were quite over the top, which may distract some viewers. The chemistry between the characters was the highlight of the show because of how well the actors delivered on that front.

Overall Opinion

The Silent Criminal is pretty entertaining for the most part. It isn’t ground-breaking by any means but is intriguing enough to provide the audience with an enjoyable viewing experience. The drama is definitely worth a shot despite its flaws because of its relatively high entertainment factor.
