Drama Digest

The drama tells the story of the influential Han family who has military power over the northern border. The family has two children: Han Yuan Niang, the eldest daughter and Han Shi Yi, the male heir of the family. When Han Shi Yi dies an early death, everything Han family governs is imperilled. In the absence of a male heir, the military powers of the Han family can be coerced by the court. To avoid this, Han Yuan Niang decides to disguise herself as her dead twin brother. To fool the people who want to pull her to their side, she portrays her disguised male self as a lustful, uneducated, and weak man. However, things take an exciting turn when she surprisingly becomes the 5th prince, Chen Yan Yi’s companion. She helps him to become the crown prince. All this is short-lived when the prime minister’s son, Wang Zhong Yu, finds out about Han Yuan Niang’s secret.

The Feel-Good Part

The best part, without any second thoughts, has to be the female lead’s character. She did an outstanding task with both her roles. It was entertaining to see her as Han Yuan Niang and Han Shi Yi. She will touch your heart in both her appearances. She is strong, firm and intelligent. Her powerful aura will make you fall in love with her. The story has many enjoyable clichés instilled in it, and they are guaranteed to make you laugh. The drama also has a fair share of scenes that will make you feel butterflies in your tummy. The beautiful underwater kiss is one such example.

The Disappointing Factor

The end isn’t collated competently. It instead feels very rushed, and many explanations are missing. Initially, the political angle isn’t quite heavy. All that the plot focuses on in the beginning is humour and romance, while you get just a slight glimpse of the politics – just enough to create the needed tension between the characters. However, once you reach the end, you are bombarded by the political complexities, and naturally, you are unable to understand a lot of it. It would have been better if the ending could have been stretched a little more, and everything would have been delivered rather gradually.

In-Depth Analysis

The drama has a very romantic and comic storyline. The dialogues are fun and humorous. Overall, the drama has a great start, and you will love how the story grows. It also moves at an appropriate pace. The romance and comedy are equally balanced. But the ending might be dissatisfactory for many. No doubt, if we judge from the central idea of the story, then the ending is entirely justified. Everything sprung out because Han Yuan Niang had to fill in her dead brother’s spot to save her family. Hence, if, in the end, she would have revealed her true identity, just so she and the prince could be together – jeopardizing everything, then that would have contradicted the primary motive of the story itself. Therefore, they were somewhat fated to be separated. Despite that, when you get to witness beautiful sweet romance throughout the series, the ending becomes hard to digest. Seeing them both walk past each other and yet not meeting is extremely cruel for the audience.

Star Power

‘Una You’ does an exceptional job in playing the role of Hua Yuan Niang as well as her disguised character Han Shi Yi. You can see her power-packed performance through both roles. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that she stole the show. ‘Jiang Chao’ also played the part of the fabulous prince Chen Yan Yi with excellent perfection. Together they both will just make you giggle out of joy and delight.

Overall Opinion

It is a fun show, but you will have to make sure you don’t let the heart-breaking ending spoil the fun for you. Other than that, it is worth it. The romance, comedy and chemistry are perfect.
