Drama Digest

Back in the Ming dynasty, there lived a girl named Yao Zijin, who came to the palace to become a chef. As time passes, she learns a lot of new things and works her way up in the royal palace kitchen. She meets many people and makes many friends, and somewhere along the way starts an affair with the royal prince.

The drama shows many achievements of this particular clan along the way and the journey of three successful emperors.

The Feel-Good Part

The scenes with the culinary skills have been amazing, and they are very satisfying to watch; there are many scenes like that. As the drama name specifies imperial cooking, the drama mainly focuses on the food. Those scenes are shot perfectly. Everything looks divine and delicious.

Also, the costumes used in this show are top-tier beautiful. Like you’ll watch half of the drama just to know what costumes every character in the drama is wearing. They are outstanding.

The Disappointing Factor

Aside from having devour-worthy food and splendid costumes, the drama doesn’t have anything else. The storyline is plain and predictable. The drama has nothing to keep it afloat. It is a high-production drama with almost no romance and just unnecessary planning and plotting.

In-Depth Analysis

As the genre is romance, there is very little to no chemistry between the main leads. They don’t have enough screen time together. Which makes the viewers think about how the main leads fell in love? They both either keep on denying their feeling for each other or when they are together, they act all mighty in front of each other.

The show has a lot of potential, but the writers did a bad job at writing it. Well, it is a mix of the original story and some added factors, but the things they added for the sake of the plot just disturb the whole show, and it’s annoying to watch.

Star Power

The star cast is excellent, but the show is not worthy of them. The female lead’s acting is not convincing enough, but the rest of the cast is good.

Overall Opinion

The show doesn’t have anything, but if you like to watch delicious food with a historical mix, this one is for you.
