Drama Digest

Efforts to capture the rare Naga pearl during the Zheng Dynasty caused Ye Haishi, a girl from a fishing village, to lose her father. When the soldiers threatened the rest of her family and her town, the passing first minister Fang Zhu takes her under his wing as his apprentice. She enters the imperial court as Emperor Di Xu’s bodyguard, disguised as a man harboring a mistaken grudge against the Emperor for the pearl tax. Fang Zhu and Haishi are in love, but they push themselves apart.

The Feel-Good Part

The costume, scenery, casts, etc., make the show very visually pleasing. There are enough couples to keep the romance entertaining and will evoke those deep emotions within you.

The Disappointing Factor

The narration of the story and edits makes it less compelling. You can notice this in the love story between Ye Haishi and Fang Zhu.

In-Depth Analysis

‘Novoland: Pearl Eclipse’ is a big-budget film with extravagant costumes, excellent photography, and top-tier actors in the lead roles. So there is some assurance that this will be of high quality. But the narrative was not that interesting. They edited important sections causing the story flow to become disjointed. The presentation of the plot is not straightforward. Through flashbacks and dialogue, they show snippets of what transpired in the past between the two male leads. As a result, putting everything together takes time. Likewise, the plots of the protagonists are never fully revealed upfront. The ending was realistic but may not give closure to many viewers. The ending scenes are more engaging than most episodes; it was emotional and entertaining.

Star Power

The cast includes Yang Mi as Ye Haishi, William Chan as Fang Zhu, and Xu Kai Cheng as Di Xu. They did an extremely excellent job, and they practically sold their performances.

Overall Opinion

It is a good drama with enough periodical action and romance. It is hardly a thrilling epic, but it has enough suspense and twists to keep you watching till the end.
