The drama is based on the novel “A Game That Must Be Fouled” by Ning Hangyi. The protagonist of this story is a police cadet called Gu Dai, who has almost completed his graduation at Ningcheng Public Security University. When he begins his internship with the criminal wing of the police department, he gets involved in a complicated case. This gruesome case is that of eight writers who have been kidnapped and locked up in a warehouse and forced to play a sadistic game that will determine their life and death. Gu Dai uses his intelligence and intuition to work through the clues and solve the case. However, when he thinks he is walking down the right path, things take an unexpected turn and begin to point at him as the prime suspect. Soon, Gu Dai finds himself participating in this cruel game as an observer. He also realizes that the only way out of this atrocious game is to defy its rules, although the murderous game forbids all foul play. As the series progresses, our protagonist goes through many ups and downs and slowly uncovers the truth.
