Drama Digest:

The drama exhibits the story of forbidden love between the immortal deity, Fu Jiu Yun, and a mortal woman. He has loved her for 1000 years while she went through 10 distinct incarnations. Although he never succeeds in winning her, he still yearns for her. Once, the mortal woman is reborn as a princess called Qin Chuan, and a neighboring realm’s prince, along with the help of a group of demons, attacks her kingdom, killing her family and subjugating her people. Qin Chuan, however, saves herself with the help of Fu Jiu Yun and takes the form of Ah Man, her maid. But being a witness to the brutality causes her to crave revenge and free her people. With the help of Fu Jiu Yun, she embarks on the journey of searching for the spiritual lame, falling in love with him along the way. Howbeit, everything cames crumbling down when their fate jeopardizes their relationship and forces them to make impossible choices, which can even make them end up losing their lives.

The Feel-Good Part:

The storyline is very engaging, and the Wuxia martial arts are just beyond incredible. They are chief’s kisses. Further, being a historical drama, the costumes are utterly beautiful, and so are the sets and the scenery. The CG does not creep you out at all. The soundtracks are soothing and increase the allurement tenfold.

The Disappointing Part:

The female lead could instead be portrayed to be stronger. She is headstrong, no doubt but is still meek and powerless in ways. Also, not to forget how it’s claimed that Fu Jiu Yun has loved her for years through different incarnations, yet not even once you are provided with a clear picture of how he fell in love with her. Not even a single explanatory glimpse of her past incarnations is granted. Many twists and changes leave you completely confused and unable to follow the story. Even in the beginning, you can’t grab hold of everything; instead, you need to watch 3-5 episodes to understand. The ending isn’t satisfying too.

In-Depth Analysis:

The Chinese novel, The killing of Three Thousand Crows by Shi Silang is what the drama is based on. It feels like a complete emotional roller coaster, and the storyline is amazing. Despite, to talk very frankly, it’s the type of show which feels superb but just up till before the end. The moment the end is there, everything goes down the drain. The ending is hugely bewildering, and it’s hard to understand whether she was reincarnated, sent into the past, or whether it was all just a dream. You keep wishing more efforts were put into the explanations instead of hairstyles (The hair game could be dialed down a little.) The ending might demolish the entire show’s charm, but many might love the show so much that they won’t care about the weak end.

Star Power:

The chemistry between Zheng Ye Cheng and Zhu Lu Si is spot on. Your heart is guaranteed to melt for them. The rest of the cast is also strong, and it includes Molly Wang, Liu Yi Tong, Jiang Yi Yi, Mao Fang Yuan, Li Ming Jun, Gao Ji Cal, etc. It won’t be wrong if I say the casting is done very carefully because it indeed was, and everyone did a great job.

Overall Opinion:

The opinion in terms of this drama would somewhat be a mix. Maybe you should simply watch it on your own and decide whether it was worth it for you or not. Basically, it’s the sort of show which you love, but the ending makes you want to pull your hair out in frustration. It has its highs and lows. The entire show might be great, but the ending kind of sets you off.
