Drama Digest

Wang Xiaomi, a beloved daughter, unexpectedly meets her biological father and realises she spent her whole life with her stepfather.
She had fallen for China’s talk show industry, and during an open mic event, she successfully impresses an investor named ‘Ke Lei’ and is offered a job.
Xiaomi invites her parents to the show. Her Mother ‘Luo Qing’ notices Ke Lei, who turns out to be her ex-husband whom she hasn’t met in twenty years.
It is about relationships and the love and the decision making in a family. This 45-minute Chinese family drama series has a total of 44 episodes to watch.

The Disappointing Factor

Forty-four episodes for this series is too long. It could have been done in fifteen to twenty as well. In almost all the episodes, there are some of the other scenes which just waste the time on screen.
Liu Min Tao, who plays ‘Luo Qing’, has no expression in the scenes of any argument. She just screams in front of the camera.

In-Depth Analysis

The series begins with the narration of our protagonist-‘Wang XiaoMi'(played by Mei Yi Chen). The whole narrative revolves around her, which she always carries that with herself. And since many things are happening that we can easily get distracted from the main conflict in the series, but she with the other two characters- “Wang Da Shan” and “Ke Lie” who play key roles in her story, never fails us.
Since this is a family drama, then indeed there are lots of emotions to deal with. Here, director-‘Han Xiao Jun’ knows very well how to play with them.
Cinematography plays a key role when it comes to emotions. And here, we get to experience that too through the lenses.
There are too many characters in the frame. It’s a very challenging task to write them uniquely as each one has its flavour. The writer gets easily through this. We don’t only enjoy the show but we celebrate it.
Xiaomi’s family is not very rich. No one earns a very lump-sum amount. But their house is so massive that their earning status does not fit into it. Even same happens with dressing and their makeover.
At the very beginning of each episode, the title track plays which is very melodious. The musicians created the soundtrack just to beat our hearts faster.

Star Power

Every character plays their character very well. But the lead Wang Xiaomi stands out from them. Mei Yi Chen knows her character very well and she carries it out with ease. Sha Yi, who plays ‘Ki Lie’ is my other favourite. His terrific performance in the show makes the show more engaging.

Overall Opinion

The show has many pros but also has some cons. It has the flavour of the family which we are familiar with in our day to day life. The fun, the arguments the emotions are very real and relatable. The outstanding performances and the perfect casting are the heart of the show. This series is one time watchable.
