Drama Digest

High School Big Bang (我成了他的班主任) is a Chinese web series that hit the television screens on 2nd April 2020, finishing its airing on 23rd April 2020. It is a light-hearted and uplifting drama that depicts the lives of teenagers and their everyday happenings in an unpleasant high school. By putting the lens on the youth, the focus lies on the studying conditions, the environment in a school, and the acts students pull to live their blooming adolescence.

The Feel-Good Part

Directed by Wei Li Zhu, we find several offbeat characters in the television series, one of whom being the high school teacher, Mo Mo. She artfully uses her gangster friends to scare the high school students from falling into the path of delinquents. Much to the students’ surprise, they fail to recognise her as a teacher. Portrayed as a cheery drama series, it displays a beautiful sibling relationship between Wu Wen and Mo Mo. Even the romance between Feng Bai and the high school through slow-cooked throughout the series is one of the leading aspects.

The Disappointing Factor

Although the visual-full cast is enough for a person to continue with the drama, the music tracks employed hardly leave a long-lasting impression on the audience. Fans have also expressed their issues with the acting of the support actors.

In-Depth Analysis

Since Mo Mo lived a hard life from the beginning years, she fell into the wrong path of society. But having time to reflect on herself and stabilise her life, she takes up the position as a high school teacher. She meets various kinds of students battling their physical and mental conflicts. As a helping hand, she uses her quirky ability to devise uncommon methods to help solve their problems, setting out on a mission to turn “bad students good”.

Star Power

One of the intriguing reasons to look forward to this drama is the cast that serves visuals to its targeted audience. The line-up involves Chen Yi Xin as Mo Ran, Lu Dong Xu as Wu Wen, EQUUS as Feng Bai, Sun Jia Qi as Xia Zi Ning, Zhang Guan Sen as Zhang Chen, Suo Lang Mei Qi as Li Fei, Song Yi Xiong, Jin Yang as Mother Wei, Shan Lan Qiao as Wei Wei, and Sun Xi Zhi as Luo Ming Xuan.

Overall Opinion

Quite at odds with the routine high school drama series that focuses on the students’ accounts, we find a new perspective on a teacher handling their flock. Since the series lasts until fifteen minutes of forty-five minutes each, it fits right for a stress-free weekend binge.
