Drama Digest

Ling Xiao Xias is determined to become the first royal cook, and her efforts are rewarded when Prince Zhu Shou Kui praises her cuisine. She is hired by the imperial palace and is now on a mission to become the best imperial cook. The two of them quickly develop a romantic relationship. Because of her cuisine, Ling Xiao gained the favour of the palace’s inhabitants. The Prince and Xiao’s relationship is inevitably met with criticism from the Prince’s family.

The Feel-Good Part

Unlike in most historical rom-coms, where the Queen is overbearing and heavily involved in their son’s life, the Queen is highly supportive of her son and is content as long as he is happy. It was exciting to see something different. There was an excellent balance of romance, comedy, and, of course, the show’s main character, food! There are no love triangles, twists, or complex subplots to get tired of.

The Disappointing Factor

The drama was plainly low-budget, with the majority of the funding going to promoting food, which is understandable. Except for the ending, the audience seemed pleased with most of the drama. People had issues with the open ending because it isn’t for everyone. Both male and female actors can improve in terms of their facial expressions and auras.

In-Depth Analysis

The Crown Prince, Zhu Hsou Kui, had a pampered and entitled image at first. Later on, he reveals his caring and protective side toward the people he cares about. He would even put his life on the line for them. It was fascinating to watch him grow as a person. The female protagonist teaches him the value of sharing his difficulties. Xiao Xiao is determined to be the greatest in her field. While she loves the prince, she also loves her art of cooking, and she is torn when she is forced to choose between her career and her love for the prince.

Star Power

Wang Xing Yue’s performance as Crown Prince is admirable. He did an excellent job of capturing his character. Hue Rui Xian’s performance as Xiao Xiao was also highly compelling. Both of them were excellent at bringing out the comedy and romanticism in each other’s characters.

Overall Opinion

A straightforward narrative that features fantastic food, romance, humour, and family support.
