South Korea has some of the best child actors. The fact that many of today’s leading stars were previously child actors proves this fact. Their acting skills are so good that they are capable of leading a whole movie. Here are a few different stories with children as leads.
1. Hope
The movie is about a young girl who is sexually abused, and as the title suggests, she and her family decide not to lose hope. Traumatised by the incident, the girl is scared of her father. Accepting the situation, the father dresses up every day to cheer up his daughter and prepare her for her trial.
2. Miracle In Cell No.7
A man with an intellectual disability is arrested for sexually assaulting and murdering a young girl. His inmates, who are aware of his innocence, try to help him reunite with his young daughter. When his sentence is decided, they plan an escape route for him, but the plan fails.
3. A Little Monk
A young boy, leading his life as a monk, is not sure about how he wants to live. He is waiting for his mother to return and take him home. A wealthy woman visits the monastery occasionally. Tired of waiting, the boy agrees to be adopted by her.
4. The Way Home
A little boy who has lived in the city is forced to shift to his grandmother's house in a small village. He is rebellious and is not ready for rural life. At the same time the kid does not have any choice but to stay with his Grandma. Slowly, the love and affection shown by his grandma change him.
5. A Melody To Remember
A group of orphans meet a second lieutenant who has a sad past. This helps him understand the children’s pain and he forms an emotional bond with them. He helps the kids form a choir and vows to protect and support them.
6. Pawn
Two debt collectors take the daughter of an illegal immigrant as collateral. Unfortunately, the mother is deported back to her country. The two men are now the only people the little girl knows and slowly they start relying on each other as family.
7. Scandal Makers
A young woman with her little son comes to a not-so-popular celebrity's house and tells him that he is her father and the kid's grandfather. To avoid scandals, he tries to hide them from public attention. But things go wild when people start assuming that his grandson is his son.
8. Treeless Mountain
Two young girls notice their home being emptied. Soon, their mother sends them to stay with their aunt. She gives her daughters a piggy bank, and promises them that she will return once the piggy bank is full. The only way to fill the bank, is by behaving well for which they will be rewarded by their aunt.
9. When I Turned Nine
I cannot call it a love story because of their age, but this movie is a sweet story of friendship between two nine-year-olds. The kids have a bad start to their friendship but slowly realise that they have many things in common. How their story continues forms the rest of the movie.
10. Silenced
A new teacher enters a school for deaf children. The children are not really happy with his presence and always find ways to avoid him. He continues to be kind, and the children start communicating with him. The revelations they make are a big shock to him.
