“Wo De Yi Jie Zhe Lu” is a comedy fantasy Donghua produced by Bilibili. It aired in China from the 13th of January 2022 to the 27th of May 2022. The title translates to “My Journey To Another World.” The Donghua is a comedy fantasy anime about the story of a young man who swallows an Orb and ends up becoming the prettiest man in the town. The story has been set in the beautiful Muyun city. The story begins in a contemporary, futuristic, and game-like China, with a young man named Chen Xiaofan, an influencer. This futuristic city gets hit by a stage 17 Typhoon. To investigate the typhoon and interview a few people, Xiaofan step out. Without any productive outcome, Xiaofan returns home while he gets stuck in the middle of the hurricane, and a portal opens up. From this portal, an eerie cat-like creature, called the white beast, pops out along with a mysterious pink substance, the chaos Orb. In this encounter, Xiaofan ends up swallowing the Orb and gets teleported to an alternate universe living in the 14th year of Tianbao’s Muyun City. He lands in this unknown world as Young Master Chen, the prettiest man in the world.
Along with the difficulty of living in this strange world, Chen Xiaofan also realizes that he is the son of the Chen family, the ruling family of the city, and the face of the family. With the help of the white beast, Chen Xiaofan manages to get a break from his newly found “daily duties” to figure out ways of returning to his world. Will Chen Xiaofan be able to return to his world, or will the pros of the alternate world make him stay there forever? Will Chen Xiaofan leave his life in the hands of a mere cat, or will he find different ways to have complete control over all his decisions?
The Feel-Good Part
The exciting part of the Donghua is its game-like setting and animation. The entire Donghua has been made so that the character and the title slide look like something seen in a video game. This is an exciting take on an animated series and would catch the attention of a lot of viewers.
The Disappointing Factor
The disappointing bit about the Donghua is its storyline. The Donghua has an exciting concept, but the way it is incorporated into the story makes it a bit boring. There are bits in the story where the audience may feel a disconnect. The Donghua might come off as not well paced.
In-Depth Analysis
The Donghua has an innovative form of storytelling, but it is what people would call a bad example of a short Donghua. Although the Donghua is 10 minutes per episode, and the story might be paced well in each episode, but you will feel like it gets cut at the wrong time. The end of each episode is so abrupt that after a few episodes the viewers might not have any interest in watching it ahead. The story is taken well in the beginning, but as the story progresses, you will feel that many unnecessary plots and pauses are added to make it seem like a more extended animated series.
Star Power
Unlike most Donghua, this Donghua doesn’t use famous voice actors. Most of the voice actors will sound completely unfamiliar but have executed their job perfectly.
Overall Opinion
If you are someone who likes the game-like storytelling format, then this Donghua is a must-watch. But it would be better to not expect too much from it. It is just a short, no-brainer Donghua.
