Drama Digest

NAZ produces Gloomy the Naughty Grizzly, a Japanese anime television series. The series broadcast in Japan from April to June 2021 and was streamed globally on YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.

The Feel-Good Part

Pity looks after Gloomy and tries to treat him like a pet, but Gloomy mauls Pity because he’s a fully grown bear who can’t be treated like a pet.

The Disappointing Factor

The show is completely monophonic. You’ve seen them all if you watch the first episode. After that, the show offers nothing. There is no character development, relationship development, or change.

In-Depth Analysis

Gloomy was a stray small bear that was saved by Pity, a young child. The bear was first quite cute and cuddly, but as he grew older, he became increasingly wild and forgot not to attack humans. That is why he began attacking Pity, his owner.

Star Power

This series has the potential to become monotonous quickly, but there’s no indication of how long it’ll last, and the episodes are only one minute long—the writers understand that any longer would be tedious for such a simple plotline. The artstyle is cleverly crafted adorable enough to keep the maulings from becoming unwatchable. With the popularity of Sanrio figures on the rise, it’s good to see some darker, simpler designs as well.

Overall Opinion

Overall, the show does a fantastic job of presenting itself in one-minute episodes, and it’s entertaining to watch. They did an excellent job transferring the dark franchise’s graphics and general vibe to animation.
