Drama Digest

The story follows Yu-yu Kondo, a shy, timid 15-year-old with an ability to read hearts who lives with his family in Kanazawa city. His shy timid nature makes him a target of his sisters, who make him do wild and outlandish tasks for their amusement. Being unable to handle their torment Yu-yu runs away from home and is picked up by Megumi Okura. He is then taken to the โ€˜Night Amusement Parkโ€™ where he witnesses a new game battle called Cardfight! Vanguard. Megumi introduced him to her team, known as Team Blackout, and a whole new world of magic and wonder unfolded in front of his eyes. Watch the series to get to know how Yu-yu grows and the various battles and adventures he faces.

The Feel-Good Part

The Cardfight! Vanguard franchise is old, long, and merchandise centric, which sometimes makes it seem like the anime is one massive advert. But in this case, we can genuinely see the creators trying to make it seem like a full-fledged anime, with less emphasis on the cards themselves and more focus on the story. It has a good animation style which is an improvement from the previous styles of the franchise.

The Disappointing Part

Because it is a franchise spinoff, you may get lost if you have no idea what the card game or the previous installments were. The anime also goes very fast in terms of how the game is played, wasting no time on the gameplay or instructions. The humor within the show is also very hit-or-miss. Humor, of course, is subjective but the show tends to reuse jokes and use low-brow comedy that may not be fun for a larger audience.

In-Depth Analysis

Cardfight! Vanguard is a new installment in a larger franchise, so more often than not, it will feel like that. It gives off the standard anime tropes of friendships, teamwork, power, etc. However, it is a refreshing look at a very established franchise.

Star Power

Aside from having its power in merchandise and physical cards, the show also sees the likes of Aoi Shouta and Amane Shidou in its voice cast. Shouta is a well-known singer and actor known for performances in shows such as Carole & Tuesday, Princess Connect! Re-Dive and so many more. Shidou, on the other hand, is relatively new in the voice acting scene and has made a significant impact on overDress.

Overall Opinions

Suppose you are a fan of Cardfight! Vanguard franchise, then this show is worth checking out.
