In-Depth Analysis

Rapping is intricately connected to the rapper’s individuality. Targeting high school students highlights the teen period of an individual when most of them are starting to face reality and are about to begin their way to adulthood. This stage of rebellious self initiates a channel of energy proficiently evoked through rapping. It is that time when hi-hop is not only a genre but a means to uphold their confident and unique self in a society which continuously tries to limit them.

The show’s format is meticulously built to aim at specific facets of the contestants in a strategic fashion. It begins as the mentors introduce themselves, followed by the contestants’ introduction. Forty participants gather before Nucksal makes his appearance as the host.

The first round has no elimination. It shows the ability of the students while the mentors watch them separately. This round is relevant in drawing a rough idea of the participants and for knowing their stories of struggle, passion and enthusiasm.

After almost three episodes of solo performance, the group battle begins. Apart from confidence, a competitive mindset poses a significant aspect of rap. Fierce opponents bring out the indomitable competitive energy. It occupies the rapper and posits incredible performance. It helps the mentors focus on their talents and narrows down the contestants for the selection round. Furthermore, support from fellow mates creates a friendly battle aura where talents remain the focus as the contestants strive to prove their worth while respecting their opponents’ skills. The presence of such a recurrent healthy atmosphere evokes staggering energy across the screen, thereby shooking the mentors, viewers and onlookers to the utmost.

Theme battle is the next round after group battling. Here two contestants engage in a rap battle by choosing a random card drawing. After this, the selection round reveals the mentor-student group through a strategic process. A group battle follows this where the mentors of respective groups decide on a beat, and the team members make a song. The seventh and eighth episodes show the contestants deciding on a textbook topic and making songs. Semi-finals and final rounds follow up to bring forth the winning personnel.
