Movie Digest

Tonight (ในคืนนั้น) is a Thai short film that focuses on the budding sparks and the complexities of a queer relationship. Produced by Boombox Pictures and released on the YouTube platform, the film spans over twenty-two minutes. Executed under the utmost careful direction of Supakhit Povarasoonthorn, it came out to the viewers on the 7th of September, 2020.

The Feel-Good Part

One of the first things that set the mood for the couple is the soft tuning of the piano playing in the background. The song goes “My Love” by GUMMY (거미). The short film artfully discusses the coming together of a couple who attract each other after being honest. The audience gets insight and depth into LGBTQIA+ relationships.

The Disappointing Factor

What fans wish to change about Tonight is the length of running time. The twenty-two minutes seem a lot less to comprehend the characters’ actions. It fails to give a proper resolution to the viewers without a possibility of a sequel.

In-Depth Analysis

After breaking up with his girlfriend for a long time, Two finds himself with endless questions regarding his sexuality. He seeks comfort in the companionship of Kenji and at his house. Together they spend the night, where he sees Kenji in a different light. Their story is a beautiful representation of a queer person interrogating their feelings and reality. It highlights the path of being honest with one’s inner self.

Star Power

To flawlessly get the message behind the movie, the casting directors did more than a good job choosing the actors. The line-up involves Aksornkorn Jariyakhuntorn as Two and Jaruphat Sareeniwat as Kenji.

Overall Opinion

It displays a sweet relationship developing organically between two friends who have known each other for a long time. This makes the short film a perfect train or subway ride watch.
