Movie Digest

Two doctors become excessively obsessed with collecting actual evidence that ghosts are real after experiencing a haunting at their hospital.

The Feel-Good Part

It was well-produced; the set design, costuming, and ghost design were all excellently executed. The suspense element was well-done, and it worked well with the main characters’ unpredictability. There was a feeling of amusement in the unpredictability because you wondered, “Is he going to do it???”

The Disappointing Factor

In terms of the story, it started off strong but grew stale towards the end. What makes this “frightening” is the protagonists’ path to self-destruction and obsession, not anything supernatural. It’s heartbreaking to witness them make sacrifices for their aspirations that harm themselves and others. ‘Ghost Lab’ squanders promising ideas in the name of cheap scares. Despite having moments of horror and suspense – as well as, shockingly, heart-pounding melodrama – the film fails to adequately portray the story’s promise. Although the theory is intriguing, the execution and overall tale fall short.

In-Depth Analysis

“Ghost Lab” begins as a poor horror comedy set at what appears to be Bangkok’s emptiest hospital (this film has more genres than extras), where a couple of teenage residents are lured to medicine for macabre reasons. Wee (actor/model/pop star Thanapob “Tor” Leeratanakachorn) is the more serious of the two; he became a doctor to look for his long-suffering mother, who has spent the past decade on her deathbed in the hospital’s long-term care unit. Gla (Paris Intarakomalyasut), his goofy closest buddy, is a trickster who lives for the laughs, but he also has a dark side that stems from a childhood paranormal event.

Star Power

Ghost Lab begins lightheartedly and almost comically, but you rapidly realize that something is extremely wrong. You get a glimpse inside the minds of not just the main protagonists, but also their families, as you travel along with them. Ghost Lab aims to push the boundaries of human passion and fascination by investigating ghosts and the afterlife. The actors performed admirably. Taking a break from dramas to make a film this good.

Overall Opinion

Overall, this was a fairly intriguing thriller that took a new approach to obsession and mourning. The conclusion is breathtaking. The film is not only about ghosts, but also about the human mind. Tor and Ice have an interesting and raw chemistry. The film is really worth seeing.
