Drama digest

This movie is the sequel to the movie The Witch: Part 1: The Subversion. The first part was the Korean adaption of Stephen King’s ‘Firestarter’. It’s a science fiction and action-packed movie series which uses violence as a method of storytelling.

Feel-good part

The action scenes of the movie are impressive. The escaped girl is portrayed by the gorgeous actor, Shin Si Ah, who is a treat to watch. As these movies belong to the infamous Korean director, Park Hoon Jung, they definitely represent a lot of things differently that are lacking in other movies. He has a strong sense of playing with visuals, late revelations, etc.

The disappointing factor:

The second part has a lot of negative points as compared to its predecessor. It lacks to bind the story with logical points in some parts and some of the other parts seem immature. This part can be almost compared to a comic book as its scenes have more of a comical edge than the first part. Some of the characters from the first film are brought back in this part but the film still feels incomplete in some sense. But both the parts of the movie series have violence on a large scale which might seem inappropriate to some audiences.

In-depth analysis:

The story of the first part takes place inside a mysterious science lab where mysterious experiments take place. The story of the second part starts from a past sequence where an accident is faked for some reason. The only survivor of the mysterious science lab named ‘Ark 1’ escapes the lab somehow. She’s rescued by two civilians named Kyung Hee and Dae Gi who are siblings. They soon discover that the girl is no ordinary person. She is strange and has some powers which can seem supernatural. This is just the follow-up of the story from the first version, where a young girl named Ja Yoon, had escaped the mysterious lab, gained some superpowers, and started living in her adoptive parents’ house. After a few years, some witches from the lab were sent in order to retrieve her which resulted in her unlocking her once lost supernatural powers. The story of Ark 1 is similar to Ja Yoon’s. Ark starts living as a normal human with the two siblings and finally feels at home after years of being captured. But her real fate awaits her with the unexpected incidents that are about to happen in her life.

Star power

There are two stars in the show, one directly involved and the other has a catalytic involvement. First is the actress, Shin Si Ah portraying Ark-1 in this second part, she is a cute, serious, and talented actress and carries the show with her visuals and acting. The other is the director, Park Hoon Jung, who is said to be quite popular in Korea for his distinctive and violent style of direction.

Overall opinion

The movie is a mix of extreme violence, many mysteries, and unexpected relations between the characters. Even if the title sounds intriguing, this movie might not be of enough interest to the audience.
