The Shooting Girls (슈팅걸스) is a South Korean sports film that came out in the theaters on the 6th of May, 2020. With a running time of over one hundred and one minutes, the movie follows the struggling journey of athletes in the Wanju Samrae Girls’ Junior High soccer team.

The Feel-Good Part

One of the parts you could look forward to is the uplifting feelings it brings. Since the characters belong to the lower classes, it becomes significant to analyze the difficulties they face. Many fans pointed out how the movie became a source of inspiration and brought back the unique nostalgia when they were part of the sports team in high school.

The Disappointing Factor

What fans did not dislike about the movie was the cyclic production and appropriation of others’ stories. Moreover, to fit the dramatic effects of the script, screenwriters introduced new elements apart from the real-life to add spice.

In-Depth Analysis

Made under the direction of Bae Hyo Min, the story focuses on the tenacity and hardships faced by the newly admitted athletes in an established institute. Every student belongs to a minority class with a distinguished background. Their coming together poses several challenges for the legendary coach. Different personalities join forces to win prominent positions at the National Soccer Competition. The story draws motivation from the real lives of 12 girls from Samrye Girls’ Middle School in Wanju, Jeollabuk, taught under their infamous coach Kim Su Cheol in 2009.
