Movie Digest

Hae Joon is always respectful of others and is overall a polite person. He is passionate about his work as a detective on the homicide squad and always tries to finish the investigations properly. Once, an unnatural death case occurs on a mountain, and Hae Joon is the leading detective of this case. There he meets the former wife Soe Rae of the late victim, who seems less concerned than expected about her husband’s death. At first, Hae Joon is very much doubtful of his wife being the culprit, but then he gets more intrigued by her. Things start to get messy the more he becomes attached to this mysterious woman.

The Feel-Good Part

The visuals are alluring and dramatic, which keeps the audiences intrigued and invested in the movie. The movie has more melodramatic aspects with an unseemly formed romance and a captivating mystery. Some moments and the intensities underneath the scenes got exquisitely articulated, which will give audiences a chill down their spines. The movie shows elaborate and detailed filmmaking with a vicious yet beguiles plot. Every part and moment is visually much louder than the words spoken. Phenomenal acting skills got performed by the entire cast that kept up with the mood and vibe of this movie. The chemistry between these two main actors is so irresistible and inappropriate that it keeps the viewers enticed throughout the masterpiece. The characters were well-built and carried the movie brilliantly.

The Disappointing Factor

Park Chan Wook has always made more twisted, inhumane, and brutal-themed pieces, but this movie might not be fulfilling of that genre as it is a more mysterious romance with some thrilling aspects to it. It focuses more on the characters and their interactions rather than the mysterious death, which can be in a good or a bad sense.

In-Depth Analysis

The movie is a noir thriller with an unintentional intimate but platonic love between a detective and a suspect. Hae Joon is a police detective working in the Homicide squad. He is young, handsome, respectful, and married to a pretty wife who lives apart in a small town. Hae Joon is always eager to take on investigations and also solves the cases pretty fast. One day unusual case appeared as a male dead body gets found on a mountain trail. Hae Joon takes on this case and meets the victim’s wife, who is beautifully mysterious and weirdly not distressed about the upsetting news of her dead husband that intrigues him. Hae Joon starts to suspect her of murder even though she has a tight alibi. He continues to stake her house at night and keep a close eye on her. It turns into a non-sexual obsession, with boundaries crossed and feelings reciprocated. Every human has different perceptions, and every moment thought, value, and idea have a different meaning to various people. But can everything be sacrificed in the name of love?

Star Power

This movie is directed and written by Park Chan Wook, known for making twisted masterpiece movies. Park Hae II plays the main lead detective named Hae Joon. Tang Wei plays the role of a dubious Soe Rae, Park Yong Woo plays Ho shin, and Go Kyung Pyo portrays Soo Wan in the movie. This movie participated in the Cannes Festival and won an award for best director.

Overall Opinion

Highly recommend the movie to the fans of mystery, romance, and melodrama lovers. This movie has a more than satisfying plot, which got amazingly executed. This movie will get the heart racing as the film goes deeper and turns darker.
