Movie Digest

Color Rush is a South Korean enigmatic, romantic film directed by Park Sun Jae and starring Yoo Jun and Hur Hyun Jun, adapted from Se Sang’s web novel “Color Rush.” Yen Woo, the main protagonist, is neurologically color blind and sees the world in the shades of grey, black, and white. However, his life completely changes forever when he meets Yoo Han. He faces a sudden rush of colors and emotions every time Yoo Han walks into the room. While all of this is happening, Yen woos aunt Yi rang tries to find her lost sister who went missing years ago with the help of Yoo Han, while revealing more mystery between the two lovers.

The Feel-Good Part

The story is intriguing with an excellent script and stunning cinematography. Color Rush is a hopeful illustration of the achievement when a quality South Korean movie production meets BL content. Despite its abrupt ending, the movie left a lasting impact due to its creativity and unexpected emotional resonance. The movie sets itself apart through unique visuals; the mono and probe concept is fantastic, and the chemistry between the two actors seems flawless and unforced and unreal.

The Disappointing Factor

The movie frequently showcases a lack of sensitivity. Color Rush’s decision to move from a sweet, thoughtful movie to a dysfunctional and criminal feel kills the movie’s vibes. The music seemed out of place most of the time, and the script seemed to be soppy. It also makes the mistake of overusing Yen Woo’s narrative perspective to advance the plot. Also, there is a lack of character development for Yoo Han. As the movie progresses, it barely scratches the surface of the narrative. Yen woo, and Yoo Han’s relationship is somewhat unhealthily portrayed. The movie is a bit disappointing because of the abrupt and unresolved ending of the story.

 In-Depth Analysis

Color Rush has a captivating story with undiscovered potential. It has a strong start and a creative premise. The movie has a lot of interesting and unusual ideas, and the concept of “mono” and “probe” is very intriguing, giving a romantic and spiritual side to it. The protagonist is shown to be sympathetic and gives a vibe of emotional disparity.  The relationship between the characters seems to be a mixed bag; several scenes are deeply touching and beautiful. Moreover, the movie was compelling but needed more time to elaborate on its imaginative storyline. Above all, this movie is dramatically different from a typical BL love story.

Star Power

We can see Hur Hyun Jun and Yoo Jun playing the lead roles of Yoo Han and Yen Woo. Yoo Jun has played his character so brilliantly with a strong performance. His crying scene is an extraordinary moment. The actor brought out the complex and vulnerable parts of the character with absolute perfection. Hur Hyun Jun’s acting was superior. His portrayal of Yoo Han’s laidback, simple, fun-loving, spontaneous personality is flawless. But both the lead actors have carried out the movie’s mushy material with impressive believability.

Overall Opinion

Color Rush is a perfect movie to watch if you love to watch mysterious, intriguing, and romantic BL content.
