Movie Digest

Narumi Momose is a typical office worker who tries to do her best at the company. However, she conceals her fujoshi otaku way of life which is a complete secret to the people at her workplace.. At her new job, she runs into Hirotaka, an attractive and competent coworker who is a game geek and an old buddy from childhood. The two seem to be made for one other, yet otaku have trouble falling in love. They try to deny their feelings but they keep being drawn to each other.

The Feel-Good Part

The Otaku-like expression isn’t all that different from the manga, which is a plus. You won’t be bothered by every single nuance, promise. It was a mass-market motion picture that did not respect the writing and illustration of Fujita. Even movie critics sometimes make mistakes. It’s possible that Fukuda Yuichi lacked the funds or resources necessary to edit this live-action musical. It would have been quite helpful. A sequel will be desired by some people while being avoided by others. Just for the sake of enjoying its sweetness, this movie.

The Disappointing Factor

The director’s attempt to link the manga/episode series was tedious and took too long. If the director appreciated music, he ought to have used the Niconico Suite or anything else. The director was creative, but the musical portions were poorly cut. It would have been better if the song and dance had been a bit quicker. A side note: Ms. Takahata’s singing was too good; if her voice had had a little more treble, one might have liked it. The characters’ shapes, especially the two major ones, grew infinitely shallow due to the frequent singing and dancing sequences.

In-Depth Analysis

An otaku lover, Momose Narumi is 26 years old. She starts working for a new business. There, Narumi runs into Nifuji Hirotaka, a buddy from her youth. Although Hirotaka is attractive and skilled in his career, he is an otaku (obsessed with specific pop culture content). Narumi enjoys reading comic books about males in love, but she keeps this to herself. She may only express her interest in Hirotaka.

Narumi and Hirotaka discuss their otaku hobbies after work. Hirotaka asks her if they may go on dates and tells her that they would make a cute otaku pair. They start off as a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship, but they quickly run into problems.

Star Power

The character of Momose Narumi, played by Takahata Mitsuki  doesn’t experience any oddness. She does an amazing job of acting, giving it her all despite the script’s flaws. Ishiyama Kunio, played by Jiro Sato, in an inebriated performance that will make one laugh out loud at least once. Although Nanao is gorgeous and her part as Koyanagi Hanako was somewhat intriguing, there were times when one wondered, “Where did she go? The excellent acting of Tsuyoshi Muro sticks out from the crowd. Since Yamazaki Kento’s character is emotionless from start to finish, one can question if playing a straightforward part in a setting Fukuda invented for himself was enjoyable.

Overall Opinion

This live action should only be watched if you are an avid fan of the anime series of the same name and you would not mind sitting through a musical.
