Movie Digest

The movie, Adult’s Situation is about seven friends who come together for dinner. The group has three couples and one single member. Upon the suggestion of the therapist amongst them, they play a game. The therapist said that if everyone’s texts and emails were read and all calls were heard by everyone present, then not many relationships would survive by the end. Everyone was very interested in finding out the truth in that statement. Having thought that no one had anything to hide, they opened their phones and kept them in the center, only if they knew what was in store.

The Feel-Good Part

Many movies have a theme where the actors come together and play the same game for similar reasons. This Japanese movie is different because of the way they prove the aptness of the movie title and bring in a comic theme that looks more like a murder mystery. This movie is much lighter in matters of drama than in previous films. The comedy parts of the movie are shot in a very exciting and severe way. If you were to take an instance, whenever any phone rings, the background music is so intense to mark the start of a tragedy. It is shown in a very tragic way which makes you laugh inevitably.

The Disappointing Factor

The movie happens to be very good overall, but it ends with an incredibly weak climax. Most of the previous films end with all of the characters moving on, forgetting every revealed secret and going back to their old life. It showed that the movie’s theme was what if this happened. It is like you are cheating, but it is better than what happened in this movie. The secrets were all real, and they did not impact the relationships. According to the script, the revealing of secrets brought everyone closer; I mean, how? They were messages about a significant cheat in a relationship, but the wife forgives her husband and pretends like nothing like that has ever happened. The ending is a bit salty and not something that will ever happen in real life.

In-Depth Analysis

In 2016, a movie called Perfect Strangers was released with a similar plot, but Adult’s Situation is different from it in a particular way. It has comedy coming in from between different genres has given the movie a unique style. As said before, the film has lighter drama than previous movies, mainly because of how the script is written and the actors even more brilliantly portray it. The comic sense of the script is what makes the movie engaging. The climax could have been better and not so salty.

Star Power

The movie Adult’s Situation has a big theme of comedy in it. The credit for it coming out so good goes to the script and mainly to the actors. The movie has a cast of seven characters, so it makes all of them main roles and not one. However, special credit goes to actor Hiromasa Taguchi. He played the character very well and kept the comedy in its best form. He also has a significant role in keeping the plot going on. Another on-point performance was in the scene when Reiji gives his phone to another person to hide that he was flirting with another woman.

Overall Opinion

The movie, Adult’s Situation is unique in how it has been brought out. The way the striptease and other calls are shot shows that the production made it look more like a murder mystery. Before and after every reveal, the sound effects had a significant impact on how eagerly the audience would wait for the characters’ reactions. Overall, it is a must-watch movie. The ending is not up to mark, but the phenomenal acting has done throughout the film, I would say, compensates for it.
