In Hong Kong’s Ladies Market, there lives Shan Lao, a street hawker. He took Tung under his shelter. Tung is an illegal immigrant. He pretends to go to school wearing a uniform. They are unaware of the illegal activities happening in their neighborhood until Tung finds a kidnapped girl in the warehouse. Chi Ho, an undercover cop, and Pui Yi, a truck driver, get sucked into a theft case. The kidnapped girl, Tung, Chi Ho, and Pui Yi, cross their paths. How will their lives get tangled?

The Feel-Good Part

The movie is set in Hong Kong’s tourist attraction – Ladies Market. We get to see it. The plot is modest. The kidnapped girl, Tung, Chi Ho, and Pui Yi, form a bonding while running away from being caught by the police. The connection between the four is heart-warming to watch. The characters have depth. Character development is also present. There are no loose threads left at the end of the movie.

The Disappointing Factor

The movie’s pace is slow. The sound aspect is not too good. The movie seems like a cartoon with too many voices. There are also too many characters, confusing the viewers. A few scenes are illogical even though the situations are realistic. The action scenes are sequenced one after the other. They are too much for the viewers to handle. The criminal activities portrayed are not realistic.

In-Depth Analysis

In the movie, Tung’s father left him as an illegal immigrant in Hong Kong. As the movie progresses, it shows how a parent’s action can cause damage to the child. Shan Lao asks Tung to wear a school uniform and pretend to go to school and do homework. It shows how Shan Lao wants others to see that he is sending Tung to school and looking after him. It also shows that education is considered vital in that region too. When the four lead characters meet, they develop a bonding. The bonding is crucial for their survival. Tung feels that they are his family. We meet people unexpectedly without whom our lives would be meaningless. The movie tries to convey just this. The connections between the four portrayed are so that the viewers can understand the deeper meaning.

Star Power

Liu Kai Chi plays Shan Lao. The movie is one of his last works. So, this movie makes his fans emotional. Annie Liu, Ron Ng, and Arrommy Leung portray Pui Yi, Chi Ho, and Tung, respectively.
