Drama Digest

Theptida Pla Rah is a Thai lakron remake of the 2009 drama with the same name. The storyline of both shows is the same, but the cast is different. The male lead Mahatsajan is the son of the political representative of the country town of Bai Mon, the female lead. He gets sent to Bai Mon’s house to learn about life in the country by his father. He is a rich spoilt kid who has prejudice about country life and looks down on the people in the town. Mahatsajan and Bai Mon end up falling in love with each other.

The Feel-Good Part

The lakron follows the Rom-Com genre and is a light-hearted show with highly crafted characters. The show gives a beautiful message about friendship, love, family, and life in general. The cinematography does justice to bring out the charm of the countryside. The music pretty much blended well with the scenes. The chemistry between the male and female lead is not the greatest, but they are cute together. Creepy and gross villains make the show intriguing. The male lead’s father is a great character.

The Disappointing Factor

The storyline is repetitive and follows the same old trend of rich, spoilt male lead falling in love with a poor, strong-headed, funny heroine. The editing of the show is below par. It’s hard to find English subtitles for the show. The storyline could follow a better plot to fit the current generation. The male lead’s mother and sister are very irritating and despicable. Their character development was much needed.

In-Depth Analysis

Mahatsajan falls in love with his sister’s friend at a party. He wants to marry her and asks his father’s permission. Mahatsajan’s father is very much aware of his son’s attitude. He sends him to Bai Mon’s house in the countryside to learn about ways of life. He is the political representative of that town. Bai Mon and her best friend Kamloy do not gel well with Mahatsajan. They have Tom and Jerry relationship. Bai Mon pulls many pranks on Mahatsajan during his stay. Bai Mon and Kamloy’s parents’ land gets tricked by the same group trying to drive Mahatsajan’s family out of its possessions in the countryside. They team up together to bring justice to the people affected by this group. The story then follows Bai Mon, Kamloy, and her boyfriend trying to realize their dreams. Bai Mon works as a housemaid in Mahatsajan’s house in the city. As time progresses, Mahatsajan starts falling in love with Bai Mon. The show ends with him overcoming his ego and other circumstances to be with Bai Mon.

Star Power

Krating is the male lead and did justice to the character of Mahatsajan. He should work more on facial expressions. Chippy Sirin plays the role of Bai Mon, and she lives the character. Other supporting casts include Stephanie Lerce, Kannaporn Puangtong, M Apinan Prasertwattanakul, Tom Nahathai Pichitra, Sirintra Niyakorn, Ton Athiwad Sanidwong Na Ayoodthayaa, Peter Tuinstra, Tong Savitree Samipak, Sommart Praihirun, Lin Nussara Pawanna, Deuan Prima Ratchata, and Morson Nocharat. The cast together brings the best of the show.

Overall Opinion

The story is nothing new and lacks originality. It is not a great show, but it is worth watching once. The drama makes you feel the characters and root for them. It brings out a different slice of life.
