Drama Digest

“GAP” is a 2022 Thai drama, that features an LGBTQ relationship. It revolves around Sam and Mon. Sam is a beautiful, wealthy, and intelligent woman. Mon considers Sam her idol and aspires to become like her one day.

The Feel-Good Part

GAP’s representation of GL in a Thai drama, has good points as it has a meaning with the title. By featuring it, the show is a step toward a better direction. The title “GAP” shows the gap between the two leads regarding age, class, and nature. The ending is satisfactory, and the chemistry between the actresses is worth praising. The story was honest, including painful moments, and shows the joy of a woman being with another woman. This drama is an inspiration for the new generation that supports GL and for the LGBTQ community.

The Disappointing Factor

With successful representation, it requires a great story, and “GAP” failed at it miserably. The story has no sense and nothing around them seems natural, the environment or the relationship. The story was poorly handled. The plot was nonsensical and there were too many fake emotions involved. The relationship shown was unhealthy and had no meaning.

In-Depth Analysis

When both Sam and Mon were kids, Sam rescued Mon one day, and since that day, Sam has been Mon’s idol. She wanted to get close to her and so she got a job and worked under her. They finally reunite at the office again. After getting close to her, Mon realizes her icy nature, which is not like the image that she had of herself and what she wanted to be. Not only were Mon and Sam different in demeanor, but they were also far in terms of class and had a gap of 8 years.

Star Power

The actors, despite being given a poor story to work with, gave their best performance. Becky Armstrong and Sarocha Chankimga, known as Green, played the characters of Mon and Sam and worked with them gracefully.

Overall Opinion

Being the GL drama it set a record and a benchmark for other directors to work on similar shows. It did an excellent job in portraying the GL relationship and showed its support towards the LGBTQ community. But besides that, the drama had nothing to offer. There was no plot or storyline to work with. And it didn’t even pass to entertain the viewers. It is simply horrible and not worth the watch.
