Drama Digest

“Broken Anniversary” is a Thai TV mini-series released in 2022. The story revolves around Wander and her family and complex relationship issues.

The Feel-Good Part

The show focuses on household relationships and complex family issues. It conveys a great message about getting freedom from an abusive, oppressive relationship. The story gives vibes of slice-of-life drama that the viewers can relate to. Music and production are standard in the drama. The show has important themes, such as single-parent households, LGBTI youths, patriarchal influence, etc.

The Disappointing Factor

Many chaotic incidents in the drama reduce the focus on the main story. It felt exploitative to make the show. The storytelling was poor and so many instances of Rose and Jaron were shown, which was like neglecting the main character Wandee. It included sleaze which degraded the quality of the show.

In-Depth Analysis

Wandee has a teenage daughter, and she gets a divorce to become a single mother. Soon after, she meets Jaron and starts a new family with him. But on their anniversary, she finds out that Jaron has an affair with a girl named Rose. Wandee was devastated after the discovery. Another girl, Tong, Rose’s classmate, has a complex family scenario. Her father, Wut, has three wives who stay in the same house. Tong wonders why her mother approves of it and has no complaints against her father.

Star Power

The actors performed all their roles gracefully. Ae Isariya Saisanan as Wandee brought out all the emotions in character. The other main, and support actors also delivered praiseworthy performances.

Overall Opinion

Overall, it is a decent show that focuses on serious household issues and complex family situations, which are essential. But the story was not up to a point, and it included many stories, which reduced the focus on one main topic. It is a decent show to watch, and being a mini-series does not need much investment.
