Drama Digest

This fantasy drama is about a brewing romance between Go Mi Rim, a part-time convenience store worker and Baek Tae Hwa, a pilot. Go Mi Rim had a crush on Tae Hwa and often dreamed of falling in love with him. Coincidentally she got the opportunity when Tae Hwa almost helplessly told her about his vulnerable situation of not finding a place to leave his cat, Natsume, before leaving for his flight. Elated, Mi Rim almost blurts out that she would gladly take care of his pet. Later, under a mysterious circumstance, Mi Rim gains the supernatural ability to understand Natsume’s thoughts and voice in human language. Their bittersweet relationship makes Tae Hwa assume that Mi Rim might be the only person with the fussy Natsume feels comfortable. So, he hires her to take care of it in his absence. Love starts to bloom as they grow closer from the owner-employee relationship to something more. But with the arrival of Tae Hwa’s family friend and ex-lover, Chae Na, things take an abrupt turn.

The Feel-Good Part

Blended with Mi Rim’s cringy attempts to control her overwhelming feelings for Tae Hwa and Natsume’s quirky remarks, the drama surely gives butterflies in the stomach. The real fantasy beholds when Tae Hwa takes Mi Rim on exciting dates and even promises her to have a date in Paris together. Throughout Mi Rim’s bubbling pep will surely bring a smile to the face.

The Disappointing Factor

Like most mainstream Korean dramas, the female protagonist does cringy actions, making her a comical character. While the male lead is still stereotyped as calm, collected, caring incapable of any odd funny actions. Subtle problematic notions such as the male cat ‘saving’ the female lead from a pervert, Mi Rim following Natsume’s false description of Tae Hwa’s ‘ideal’ type and dressing up hilariously are used as comical tropes of the drama. It continues to normalize pushing female leads to do anything to get the beloved’s attention while the male lead does everything unfathomable, even if it’s an animal, and goes for uncertain ambitious heights.

The escalating roller coaster of emotions is hardly visible at times, making it out of colour. In addition, the editing shows a lack of intricacy.

In-Depth Analysis

Everything from sweet romance to horrible heartbreaks and misunderstandings, it offers a whole cocktail of emotions in just eight episodes. Other than the subtle patriarchal arc over the characters, the story’s lightness creates a relaxing ambience. The brief length of each episode makes it all the more compelling and quicker to watch.

Star Power

The cute cat acting as Natsume undoubtedly is the star of the show. Choi Tae Joon was remarkable in bringing out the stereotypical male lead. Whereas Song Ji Eun truly lived up to the mark as Go Mi Rim. Sung Ji Ru’s voiceover as Natsume was fascinating and humorous.

Overall Opinion

The drama is a perfect fit for a cup of coffee on a rainy day or fulfilling a leisure break. Its delightful nature is bound to keep one glued. Due to its short stature, it can be enjoyed pleasantly enough, even though it might feel too slow at times, but that is to enamour the viewers with sweet romance in those scenarios.
