Drama Digest

Just Friend (사친사친) is a South Korean drama television series that aired on the Npicple’s YouTube channel from the 26th of April, 2021, to the 24th of May, 2021. Npicple’s YouTube channel has about three thousand subscribers, garnering about thirty-one thousand on the web drama series. The story centers on two people of opposite genders who play a game of who will confess first.

The Feel-Good Part

Fans have pointed out how it reminds them of their good old school days. Just Friends focuses on the hype existing before the beginning of a friends-to-lovers relationship. It shows the tensions that occur when you have a crush on someone without any courage to confess it.

The Disappointing Factor

The lack of a sturdy running time is the aspect that definitely bothers the fans a lot. Each episode is five minutes. The short length disturbs the flow of watching, resulting in an inconsistent binge. Moreover, it leaves no room for the story to have a desirable resolution.

In-Depth Analysis

Shot in a college/university setting, the scriptwriter aimed web drama series at the relatable relationships that form around the college campus. With a sassy female lead and a playful male lead, the boundaries between the two are clearly set. However, these boundaries start to dissipate when male and female friends in their dormitories cohabitate out of the blue. Sparks fly and butterflies unsettle the couple, leading them to question the basis of their relationship.

Star Power

To show the feelings between the characters in a natural way, the director spent a decent amount of time casting. They involved Kim Yeo Ryeong as Oh Ha Yoon and Jong Ha as Kang Ha Joon in the creative process of the drama series.

Overall Opinion

It is an adorable forty-four light-hearted binge for the viewers when they find themselves stuck after binging other endearing dramas. The blurring of friendship boundaries makes us reflect on our realities.
