Drama Digest

Aired on TV Asahi from 2nd August 2020 to 23rd August 2020, Nippori Charlies (日暮里チャーリーズ) is a Japanese mystery drama. Satsuki Aya wrote the script for the screen, delivering a perfect investigation drama to the viewers. Spread over four episodes, each episode of twenty-three minutes, it is centred around four characters collaborating together to bring justice to society.

The Feel-Good Part

With the roles immaculately distributed among the partners, we see a refreshing drama series before us. Instead of watching a two-hour-long movie about a homicide murder case, Nippori Charlie gives a lengthy plot with innovative characters. Moreover, what keeps the crowd tuning into the hidden identity of the important master behind this circus. It is revealed till the very end.

The Disappointing Factor

Although the plot of Nippori Charlies seems promising enough for the viewers, it lacks the potential rewatch value. And since it only contains four episodes, it becomes a little knotty for the screenwriter to expand on the ending and plot development.

In-Depth Analysis

Under Charlie’s thorough guidance and leadership, the three detectives, Yanaka, Imosaka, and Kishi, work in an independent villa called “Dark Knight”. The three scouts put their brains, beauty and efforts to solve tricky cases and supply relief to their clients in the house provided. However, the intriguing scene comes when the team does not know the true face behind Charlie’s mask.

Star Power

The cast is full of some flavorful actors. It consists Sato Ryuji as Kishi Hotaru, IKKO as Imosaka, Maruyama Tomomi as Yanaka, Ota Yuuri as Hatsune Misaki, Sasaki Kuranosuke as Charlie, Yoshida Momoka as Fujiko, Fujio Ryoko as Mochizuki Mie, Kakei Miwako as Mari, Nakwamura Yuichi as Sada Wataru, Oikawa Nao, Kimura Yuichi as Moriyama Joiji, Ryotaro as Sato Ryota, and Matsuo Shun as Matsuo.

Overall Opinion

To ease your stressful mind with an uplighting and cheery series, then Nippori Charlie is not the one to disappoint you this weekend. This quirky team’s awkward jokes and chemistry will certainly evoke laughter.
