The story centers around a young man named Mamiya Hibiki. He is sincere person who has a fun and bright personality, and works as a car mechanic. He has a girlfriend named Ogasawara Kurumi, with whom he lives. They both have been dating ever since they were in high school and Hibiki love her immensely. Thus, he decided to propose her and formulates a plan to do so. However, on the big day when he was going to propose her, he somehow ends up sliding off into a tunnel and getting trapped. After four days of struggle, he is successful in saving himself and is able to escape. But just when Hibiki thought he was back to the surface of his normal world, he shockingly realizes that he is facing a completely different one. Nothing is same. The crowded streets are completely empty as there no people around. The traffic systems are totally destroyed while the streets have weird bloodstains. Hibiki is bewildered as to what actually happened, while he simultaneously tries to look for Kurumi too.
The Feel-Good Part
The best part of the drama is undoubtedly the realistic depiction of human emotions and quandary. Be it the impulsive thirst for survival and safety, following the struggle to attain it, regardless of what it may cost. Or the moral dilemmas that one goes through at the time of any apocalypse. The drama also puts light on how our society treats different people in different ways and most of the times this status is not something that a person can chose or earn. That definitely is something that most of us can relate to. Furthermore, the zombie and humor combination that you get is really pleasurable. The plot definitely builds up well. There are no absurd changes in the plot; you get served the exact dish that you were putting the indigents in for. Everything gets the exact end as suggested by the plot buildup.
The Disappointing Factor
The consistence through the drama was somewhat missing. The first half is very interesting and fun since all the different aspects of the drama are equally focused on. However, this balance will be missing as you go further ahead, and as result many might end up not quite liking the second half of the drama. The problem being that the last half focuses on the melodramatic side of the storyline in such a way that it overshadows all the other things. The zombie factor gets noticeable scarce. Honestly, this shift wouldn’t have been much of an issue, if it had been executed in a more natural and effortless way. But instead it feels somewhat forced because of which it seems disappointing for the audience.
In-Depth Analysis
It is a fun and entertaining zombie drama. It might not be as extraordinary as some great Asian zombie movies like ‘Train to Busan.’ However, the story is not at all boring or lame. Especially in the very beginning you will find yourself sitting at the edge of you seat as the story escalates and you discover new twist and turns. The show might have its own flaws but the good parts still leave behind a remarkable imprint on the audience, resulting in the drama becoming an interesting watch on an overall scale. Moreover, the plus point of having less episodes and a quick finishing story will surely tempt people to give it a watch.
Star Power
Some actors did a phenomenal acting while other could probably have done a better job. ‘Takeuchi Ryoma’ plays the role of Mamiya Hibiki while ‘Nakajo Ayami’ plays the role of Ogasawara Kurumi. They have the main light on them. ‘Kasamatsu Sho,’ ‘Iitoyo Marie,’ ‘Makita Sports,’ ‘Ando Tamae,’ ‘Yokomizo Naho,’ plays the role of Todoroki Hiro, Hiirage Kanae, Komoto Yohei, Mihara Shoko, Mihara Yuzuki repectively.
Overall Opinion
It is a good Japanese zombie theme drama that has its own ups and down. People who generally prefer melodrama over thriller will also enjoy the show as the show offers both. The first half has the zombie theme in the main lime light, and the second focuses on the romance and drama.
